I have an HP laptop, but when i go to start, right click on my computer, and go to properties, it says System Manufacturer: Dell. I have windows vista ultimate.

I know i shouldn't be worried, but I was wondering if there is anything I could do to change this?

I purchased a Vista Ultimate DVD from some random guy who was selling it at my School. It was legit, but the only problem is it says Dell.

    Any advice?

It would seem that a legitimate Vista disc would be manufacturer agnostic. I guess you gets what you pays for when buying from random guys at school.

That means little or nothing, it could still be an illegal copy of Windows.

I have Xteq Systems, with it you can change what you are talking about here is the download link. It is now called Xteq Pro and does support Vista, I am going to tell you how I can do it but I have XP so might be a little diff. Once you install and start get to the UI and the first folder "Apperance" click to expand about halfway down folder called "OEM branding" expand click on wich ever you want to change. If any problems repost or PM me.

yah thats def not legit - its just automatically actived via oem, with dell, and im going bet $100 that you didn't need a key either ;)? that would be the NoPE version which requires no key or no activation.

will work fine so i wouldnt worry and it will get all updates until microsoft updates its security again (which im sure will eventually happen), but im assuming u probably payed no more than $50 anyway so i wouldnt care too much.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to purchase a retail version of Vista sooner or later? Oh well, when the time comes I'll buy a key and change it.
