Although I disabled Norton Anti-virus and Firewall, I couldn't get System Restore to work.

Aside from anti-viruses and firewalls, what else can prevent System Restore to work?

Define not working... like does the program show up at all? Or is it showing up, but telling you that it can't be restored to that point?

    Do you have it enabled?

Are you using 7 or Vista. In Vista it wouldn't even open...

The program runs perfectly and it restarts the computer, then I get a message like: No change has been made to your computer... System restore couldn't access a file... Try disabling your anti-virus... Try a different restore point... But even if I try a different one, I get the same problem.

Are you trying top restore for a reason or just to see if it works?

If the latter, turn off system restore, turn it back on, create a restore point, and then try it.

If the former, are you trying to use it because of a virus? Many viruses will damage system restore to ensure you cannot get rid of the virus

You only need to turn Norton Tamper protection OFF in the Norton settings. Remember to put it back on again after system restore has completed.

    Thanks. the System Restore worked.

However, before seeing your post, I tried running System Restore in Safe Mode. That may have screwed up something because although the system did go to an earlier date, I got the message that System Restore wasn't successful. And then, I got the New device found message: the system was trying to install something but unsuccessfully. Now, there is a yellow exclamation mark in front of the computer as seen below:

There is also a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager for an Unknown device.

When I try to troubleshoot it, the system says that the driver for the Keyboard Filter is missing. It tried to download it but couldn't find any online.

So far everything seems to work all right though...

    Any idea what's going on?!

I just restored it to an even earlier date and everything is back to normal. :)
