    I fought the log, and it appears that the log won. So this last week I had discovered several recurring errors that dated back to a failed windows update shortly after I bought my computer in Jan. I managed to reinstall the two "important" updates and clear up some annoying issues with Windows search and Indexing, and a failed SFC scan. I thought I also solved the VSS errors that were appearing, but system restore gives me a window saying;

    There is no particular reason that I need to restore my computer to an earlier point, I just want system restore to work properly. I have a system image of the C: drive located on the D: drive, but I would prefer not to have to go that route. So here is some info on what I have done so far...

    -I deleted all of my old restore points a few days ago while fighting with the errors in the event viewer log. I also tried disabling and then restarting system restore. All services related to VSS are running as they should. I am using a manually created restore point and it only takes up around 150 MB of my allowed 9 GB, which seems a bit small.
    -I ran chkdsk r/ f/ on both drives and 0 problems or corruption found.
    -SFC scan now completes and says that it has found no integrity violations in the system. I also ran a Checksur and the log reads normal.
    -It is also worth noting that I have system recovery set up to run on only the C: drive and not my secondary D: storage drive. Although it is a storage drive my User folders are located there, so maybe that is part of the problem.

    I did try to research this issue before posting it here and there aren't too many solved cases, and none involving two or multiple HD setups. I have plenty of space on both drives, so should I set system restore to work with both drives? In one case here, a guy solved a similar problem by paying Microsoft Support to solve what he calls a "minor glitch" via remote access. He claims he paid $49 to alleviate his frustration, and I am not above necessarily doing the same, but I would prefer to try to solve the issue myself. At the moment I don't need to use system restore points, but I don't like the idea of not having the option. From past experiences they can be pretty handy in a pinch. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    I have had user folders on a secondary drive with no issues to restoring to a previous point with Windows 7. What could be an issue is if you are restoring to when user folders were on c:\. I have to ask, as it does not seem stated, does it now allow you to complete a restore to the newly created restore point?

    Yeah, I don't think the user folders being located on the D: drive is the culprit. It is something more complicated than that. I bought a new external HD and did a system image of both drives and backed up my user folders in Windows Backup. I created another thread about this issue in the Sager/Clevo forum and was told to contact my reseller before forking out anything to Microsoft. I am sure there is a solution, but the real question is who will fix it and what will it cost me in terms of time and energy.

    I am not sure, for years I did, with HDD's, the primary as system restore with the secondary drive for all my user stuff. When I went to primary SSD then I stopped the system restore and just imaged to the secondary drive c:\ and then all users to the secondary drive as well. Then external backups of the data on the secondary drive.

    I did this as with the SF2 drives I had to occasionally do a secure erase of the SSD. If I remember correctly in doing a restore from image it either got rid of or corrupted prior system restore so you had to rebuild system restore from the point of reimage...................
