My subscription to System Mechanic is over. Before getting it again I wanted to check and see if anyone has software you think is excellent.

    Any recommendations?

Is system mechanic a 'system optimizer' or 'ram booster' or 'registry defrager'?

If yes and you are running Windows 7 then just save your money. There is no need and little to no benefit.

I have reviewed several "system cleaner" type software over the last few weeks; the reviews are starting to trickle onto the front page.

Iolo System Mechanic and TuneUp Utilities are my two favorites; great interfaces plus a lot of built-in functionality.

The only way I would buy/recommend such software is for people who you maintain computers for. If your Aunt Sue isn't the brightest bulb in the box when it comes to computers and you don't wan to have to clean out her computer every few months, a subscription for her makes sense -- the software will keep her computer clean automatically and might save you a trip over her house. Otherwise, you can accomplish much (if not all) of what these software promise with a few simple tools.

Download CCleaner and run it once a week; you can customize it with what you want it to keep and remove. Also get Defraggler and run that once a month. Both softwares can be downloaded here:
Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!
They are 100% free and work extremely well.

Windows 7 is a well-optimized operating system and is quite capable of maintaining itself. As noted, there's not much of a need to do anything to it.
