    Hi there,

i get this error msg whenever i try to open system restore

" There was an unexpected error :
The Filename,Directory name, or Volume label syntax is incorrect.(0x8007007B)
System Restore will now close. "

Anyone knows what the problem might be and how it can be solved?

    That doesn't look good...

If a clean install is do-able, then I would recommend that (after backing up your data, of course). If not, make sure you have the default services running; have you moved/deleted any system files/folders?

Oh and i don't have the windows anytime upgrade DVD to do a clean install, yet i can use the recovery partition that re-sets everything to the factory state, but i hope the problem can be solved without needing to do that.

    a safe suggestion..
Try to run System Restore in Safe Mode, and it might work.

Dumb question,How do i run the safe mode lol?
when my laptop crashes or something i get the option yeh,but how do i access safe mode normally?

Another thing, there's this thing called "Rescue and recovery" that comes with lenovo, there's an option where i can restore a certain file since my last restore point,so i'm wondering what's the file responsible for the system restore maybe if i restore it the thing works...?Hope what i just said made any sense lol

    Enabling safe mode:
Restart your PC, then while in the boot sequence (right after blank screen) press F8 repeatedly, select 'safe mode' and do a system restore.... i hope it works or else, it is possible that you have deleted some system files.

    Unfortuantly
    1) System restore is a kinda registry roll back that can sometimes be very useful
    2) The error seems to be related to the drive path which the OP mentioned he had just partitioned his hard disk which I believe is the cause of this
    3) I do not think it is unreliable but it is also not meant to be a replacement for backing up ones files. Simply a means to hopefulyl fix anythign when your registry goes fubar.
