I have my OS, programs, etc on C:\XP and My Documents on D:\Data.

I back up my C drive to a Seagate external using Seagate DiscWizard and D drive to a WD external using Karen's Replicator, I keep system restore enabled in case I need a quick fix.

Are there any advantages keeping system restore enabled on D drive?

To be honest, no and this was acknowledged by the elevated tech support personnel from M$ Vista Support to me, long back when I had some issues with system restore... But I anyway just keep it enabled, but reduced the size down to just above the min 15% needed.

In fact, others (including experts) have seriously said there is no 'real' use of this system restore thing anyways, particularly when backing up the system or the C: drive.. Which I do as well... Because there was something like, this system restore thing making restore point' only for certain essential system files and not the whole C: or something like that, like not your data or stuff.....

In fact, I do a complete PC Backup (both C: and D :).... For now though, I just have it (C :) enabled like you, but with a reduced size.. it was ~45 GB or something before, now I keep it at 30 GB, and I still have lots of space in my HDD.. so probably once it gets filled up I would reduce it even further.

It does allow you to recover a document back to a particular version on a specific date and time. If you don't need that, then no your backup will suffice.

On Vista, that's kind of true, since System Restore is tied to Shadow Copy in some mysterious way I don't fully understand... but I don't think that applies to XP though... does it?

Doh! My bad, I didn't even notice the XP reference in the initial message. You are right, the feature I mentioned is ONLY in Vista. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.

Thanks all. I disabled SR to D. Keeping it enabled on C if I need a quick fix.
