I recently bought a BenQ S32B notebook with an T8100 cpu and I noticed the CPU wasn't speed-stepping properly in both Vista and XP, it works fine in Linux tho. The CPU only using 8x and 10x multiplier (1600/2100) it never goes down to 800, I've tried everything, from power schemes to NHC, speedfan, fangui, etc ,etc.

I've only found one other person here with similar problems and was wondering if we are the only two, or maybe some T8100 owners did not notice the speed-stepping issue. Or did the other user and me did something wrong? The bios on my laptop only has one option related to power saving and cpu and no matter if i enable or disable it XP and Vista wont scale down to 800. Anyone else has this or know a solution?

Use RMclock with CPU-z, definately be able to see which multipliers are in use

btw you gotta put certain cpu loads to reach certain multipliers

I installed RMclock, and it shows 800, coretemp, cpuz and hwmonitor of cpuid all disagree with RMclock. Who is right, very confusing! And why don't programs like NHC and others and even XP/Vista itself report the right speeds? This CPU is not that new is it? I attached a screenshot of above programs running.. Also notice the temperature difference between RMclock and the rest, the laptop itself feels cooler under Linux @ 800 than XP/Vista, so im not sure if it is actually running at 800 or not... How to tell

Edit: Just ran the same batch of programs on another laptop here, a NEC with a C2D T5200, all programs agreed on speeds and temperates there... What is wrong with my T8100/laptop... :(

show me a screen shot of RMclock's 'profile' page

rmclock is a dedicated cpu utility so it trust that more.

coretemp is showing ur CPU as a Xeon CPU lol

I wonder if there is a setting in your bios for SLFM (super low frequency mode)? There was a recent bios update for my notebook that covered this exact problem-(processor can support SLFM but hardware can't).

Actually thats correct. The latest CPU-z doesnt detect SuperLFM properly becuase it only came out with the T7xxx processors which isnt that old

RMclock is showing the right stats

Your normal idle should be 6x at 1200mhz but you have superLFM which is default at 8x @ 800mhz
