My computer has been taking forever to shutdown/logoff/restart ever since... well yesterday, and the only thing I downloaded yesterday was the Avira Antivirus software. Also when I am shutting down it puts up a couple end now program windows and it is usually firefox and some others.
Also Firefox has been acting up lately. I browse for a little while then close it then get back on firefox and its like i have no internet connection?? But I can still download torrents.. so there is still a connection, it just wont work through explorer or firefox. I opened up my task manager to see my processes and there were 3 firefox's running. I thought that was weird so then I tried firefox again and still got nothing. Then once again I looked at my current processes and now there were 4? What is going on here?
If anyone can answer my question about slow shutdowns and firefox it would be greatly appreciated :)

Sounds to me like you have a virus. Do as scan. If not, I'd download AVG, scan, and if all else fails, clean install.

If there are multiple identical processes of a program and it doesn't start, you can end all of them and then start it up again and it should work fine.

try going to Trendmicro, they offer free scans and will tell you if you have a virus. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

if it does not find any viruses then we will try to figure out the next plan of attack. but try that first.

I think if the problem were my own and no virus or malware were found (and cleaned) by Avira or Housecall, I'd try reinstalling FF before doing anything drastic like a clean install. Crimsonman may be right though, and you might have to do just that eventually.

Its taking forever to shutdown/log off because programs need to close properly first.

There is a tweak where you can cut the time down. Look at the NBR tweaks guide

Concur with bmwrob and flipfire. Try reinstalling FF, and tweaking your startup speed. A virus scan shouldn't take 2 hours; if that's not working, use AVG.

if it's giving you errors after you've installed that program, i would suggest you uninstall it and go back to that Trendmicro link i sent you earlier and do another scan.

see how your computer runs after you've uninstalled that Avira Antivirus software.

well that's good news! also i would suggest Ad-Aware 2007 and Sbybot Search & Destroy, use those together (on a regular basis) and i'll bet you you'll find many more spyware on your computer.

but glad things are running better for you.
