    my friend bought a second-hand compaq nc8000
and i belive it was like this since he got it but it got some viruses and he gave it to me to fix and that is done but i wanted to know why the tapping isn't working, i have checked the mouse settings in control panel and there wasnt a tapping tab as some laptops have so if anyone knows anything about this or has any suggestions

also, not relating to the tapping but i have tried installing many wireless pci cards and wireless usb's and if they worked they would work for only a day or two then stop working ot just not work at all, any ideas on this would be appreciated

For one, it sounds like your mouse drivers are not installed. If you go to HPs site and look up the exact model number there should be a Driver Download page you can get them from.

As for the WiFi cards and stuff...again, the HP site will have approved drivers. At least check those out first. If you are talking about physically installing different cards...well, you still need to make sure you have the right and/or latest drivers for them.

Also, if you can...fully update the OS. That sometimes alleviates driver issues.
