Ok... seriously freaking me out while I was gone overseas... Windows Task Manager didnt open

    Not with CTRL ALT DEL
    Not with CTRL SHIFT DEL
Not with right click on the taskbar and click on task manager
Not with taskmngr.exe or so in the cmd window

    !?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!????!?!?!!!

I noticed my stupid norton subscription was gone and yeah... so I quickly got COMODO as a firewall since my windows firewall was down... turned on user account control for no apparent reason... what do I do?!?!?!?!?!

Have you tried any Spyware programs like Spybot: Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, etc?

TBH, it sounds like you have a virus infested oh your system.

If your subscription has expired, try using AVG Free Antivirus.

Try a different keyboard, or find a way to test all the keys you need. I have seen computers with a damaged CTRL key and then people can't get into the task manager many times before. If everything works ok on the keyboard, nuke the computer and do a fresh install. Thats the best way to fight a virus in my opinion.

Try typing "taskmgr" without quotes in the run box. If that doesn't work, definitely be looking for viruses.

It says dissabled by my administrator... I am the admin...

Anyway to get around? and activate it?

I will get AVG Free Antiv. right now and report back tomorow morning...

Is Comodo any good? seems like it to me... 500 blocked intrusions in less than a week... norton had 800 in like months...

PS: HOW MUCH WILL AVG ANTIV. + AVG ANTI SPYWARE + COMODO PRO SLOW MY LAPTOP DOWN !!?!?

    ^^^Under Vista, a lot.

TBH, 2GB is not recommend but needed to run smoothly.

But of course, don't run all at the same time.. ;)

Sounds like you've got a nasty little trojan - run spybot search and destroy, found here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

If it can't remove it will at least tell you what it is so you can google it for a solution

    Process Explorer from sysinternals/microsoft:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

    - is Task Manager on steroids, and is a standalone app so you can run it straight from the download without installing it.

Hopefully that can help you figure out what is IMO something intentionally preventing Task Manager from running (so that the user can't ID it) - tho keep in mind, if Task Manager is disabled, Process Explorer may well be also when you try and run it.

^ As mentioned above, download Spybot and update/scan (if your PC will let you), and as well get SuperAntiSpyware www.superantispyware.com and do the update/scan thing with it as well if you can.

Afterwards update any antivirus you like to use and do a thorough system scan with it.

But if all the above 'salvage plans' fail, you likely have yourself one mean little trojan ("He's an ugly little spud, isn't he?" "I think he can hear you, Ray.") :D - and that may need something even as drastic as getting your HDD out of your PC and slaving it to a clean up-to-date PC which can scan it and kill anything it finds.

    Good luck!

Start up Windows in Safe Mode with networking. If you know the main Administrator's password (account just called "Administrator) use that. Try installing AVG again, then scan. If you still cannot, use one of the free online scanners. I don't have any sites, but the Security thread on this forum does.

Anytime you have an infection, you will probably want to boot into Safe Mode to ensure that the process is not running in the background when you try removing it.

w00t so comodo is very good as I hear!? And experienced... been about 2 weeks now... runs like a charm and stuff! You just have to make sure you stay truthful to it... if you lie at the beginning about your computer knowledge you end up with stuff you dont understand lol

Now... what FREE antiv. can I use? Not a 30 day thing or so...

I have removed one thing among others with the spyware and it was listed as "THIS_IS_NOT_A_VIRUS" ... so I just deleted it because it sounded absurd...

I just need an antivirus right now!!!

You seem to be having too many problems. The best thing to do is backup your files and reinstall your operating system.

Oh yeah... great... thanks... lol jk

I will probably do this... but I REALLY dont have any time to do this... gah...

    ANY other option?

I will backup my files and such... and I will reinstall when I have time...

Any recommendations on how to backup my files?

I just usually copy and paste them... I've never used windows backup because I dont know how to use it... I never know what files its copying so it can be copying files with the virus/bot.... and it also apparently copies cookies, temp files etc...
