Taskmanager memory display problem

In this picture you can see the amount of memory I have is displayed incorrectly. Or at least not the way that I want it displayed.

I can't see how much memory is being displayed properly... it used to be in kB so I could say, see svchost.exe taking 43,225kB of memory..

Now I just get this K with a tiny amount next to it... this happened after a re-install of my OS. I can't find anywhere on the web or in the taskmanagers limited options to change the digits either...

Any ideas?

 

Mine all display the same way yours do, but just a higher number. That's a very strange error... any ideas what you may have done differently when installing the OS, if anything?

 

K=thousand, not bytes, so Explorer is using 43,000 kb

Not sure when this happened, but I guess MS decided there is no real difference between 1,000 and 1,110 kbs, so they are abbreviating

 

Actually, K - 1,024 bytes, not 1,000. And, there is a difference between Kb and kb. (or maybe it's KB and Kb, hmmmm...) KB - KiloBytes Kb - KiloBits

So... 43K is really 43,000 bytes, not 43,000 kb.

My Task Manager still shows the full numbers, but with a "K". No clue why the OP's TM is showing something so different.

 

OP, is what OS is your screen shot from? And what kind of hardware?

 

At first I thought it might be the digit grouping as well but it all looks fine to me. It doesn't tell me anything if all of my processes are showing as '1K' if you know what I mean... I think that's pretty absurd lol.



Here's a screenshot of the digit grouping options I have. All of my system locale and location settings are set to Finland, which is where I am. The only difference from my last OS install is that it was an OEM install and this is a clean install with a new Win7 disk.

My OS has always looked like 'anseio's it's never done this before... no idea why it is now. My hardware is just that of a Travelmate 5740

This is really confusing me...

 

Thanks, but I know that....I was not referring to computer physical storage just the shorthand of using a K to equal 1000, as in Y2K

I thought this was a simple shorthand as my computer also presents it this way in task manager. Still think that is what is going on but why some people are having it one way and others not is puzzling.

 

D'oh. Thanks a ton, I thought I had messed up something serious on my new install. I honest to god have no idea how any of those settings changed...
