    Hi all. Suddenly when I turn on my computer today, NHC wasnt monitoring my CPU temperature. Its reading a constant 0C or 0F. I've tried 3 other programs to monitor the temperature and all of them are giving me the same reading. Now, I know my CPU isnt breaking the laws of nature here, so somethings up. I updated my windows XP install sometime last week, but everything has been working normal until this morning. So I doubt windows updates had anything to do with it. Any ideas? Think my CPU temp monitor died?

    Try system restore point to when it was reporting ok.

    That might work if my system restore was turned on :rolleyes: Heh heh. I use a lot of disk space, and its usually more beneficial for me to keep system restore turned off.

    How could I restore my ACPI settings?

    control panel->system->hardware->device manager->computer->properties
    check and see if it is set to ACPI

    The only item under computer is "ACPI Uniprocessor PC". Device Manager isnt reporting any problems with it.

    Sorry to bump this, but any clues? My computer is feeling hotter than usual right now and all I'm doing is web surfing and trying to fix this.

    boot linux and pass acpi=off to the kernel parameters while searching?

    this should just make your fans run constantly, at least you won't damage anything that way.

    I kicked the fans on full power shortly after I made that post (thank you special Sager functions).

    I just got done taking the entire laptop apart to check for any damage or shorts on the board and there was nothing. When I put it back together and booted into linux my temperatures were reading correctly. When I booted back into windows NHC was reading correctly too. Weird.
