How do you change the registration of your notebook?
Like when you "right-click" on "My Computer" and go to "Properties" it says "Registered to:" I want to change that.
And don't say I have to reinstall Windows all over again...
-
Hmm, i know how to do it, just forgot currently...darn it
-
So you did it before? If so, that means it can be done...
-
Some software like tuneup utilities 2006 can do it, among a million other things. But I don't know of any software that is designed for that specifically
-
i use tune-up...it can only change the "windows internet explorer" in the browser title bar...
other then that, i cant found a way around it.... -
in "tuneup utillities 2006" in customize & analyze tab > tune up system control
administration > system > general
there you can change registration info and you can also add a logo, like the one manufacturers put in there. (settings button on bottom) -
Man! how u know so much?
-
And also modest, as you can see -
Dosent it bother you guys that we need to resort to 3rd party soft to do a stupid lil thing like changing your name?.... Btw there's also the fun way of doing it, scan the windows files for your name @ 2 GB itl take a few hours tho unless you got the registry adress.... N it also might be encrypted

^ I love Apples, it's healthy for you, but Windows supplies more air (more universal).
-
It worked, but that not what I wanted.
I wanted to change my cookies setting and the folder in: my computer, c, documents and seetings...theres a folder with a name, I want to change that. -
That's not what you asked for!
You can change your profile name from the "user accounts" in the control panel. Or you can just delete your user and start with a fresh new one -
okay, i tried that...and it still doesnt work. The settings came back to normal, but it still saves my cookies as the other account..
-
ugh, here is step by step on how to do it.
go to control panel-->user accounts-->change an account-->click on the account you want to change-->change my name. Make sure that you are logged into the right account.
Please, start posting the threads in the right forum. All windows questions belong the in the software forum! Off topic is for generalized questions or non-computer related threads. -
Ooooooh! Guys, don't make SG angry now!
-
I did that.
Those things change, but if you look in your cookies (My Computer>C>Documents and Settings) The folder is the same name...and with that is the same cookies in it... -
-
so then just right click on the folder in documents and settings, and select rename. Change the name to your account name.
-
You know I can't do that. it says...
" Budgetkid is a windows folder and is required for windows to run properly. It can not be moved or renamed."
I'm trying to change the cookies' name...i dont think i can do it.. -
Here is step by step instructions on how to do it.

You have to log into the admin account, and that webpage will walk you thru the rest. You have to edit the registry. -
Key Name is RegisteredOwner
Edit the registry at your own risk
Paypal me the billion dollars and I'll fly there and fix it for you (onsite service)

Let's say you try and see if it works first, SouthernGirl. And then tell me if it change the cookies... -

Had to do this just the other week. I created a new user account with admin. level settings; after you have the new account created, log onto it; then log off and on to the old one; then the option to save the data and settings for the old account should be selectable. Save it, then log onto the new account, then import those old settings to the new account. That new account will not have the "budgetkid" bit in Doc and Settings. (alternatively, if you didn't really have any files and settings on the old one that you needed to keep, you could just create a new account and run off of that)
I'd recommend not deleting the old account right away. Once you're sure that everything works fine on the new user account, then you can delete the old account.
If I recall, doing it this way didn't require me to edit the registry. Though I'm not sure if it's as thorough a method as was previously mentioned. -
^ i'll try it....
-
this might be a dumb question, but why are you wanting to change your cookies so much?
-
It doesnt say anything about saving settings...
And SouthernGirl, that's not a dumb question because I named it something dumb... -
okay, it can't be done..lets just forget it...
Thanks anyways ya'll

Glah, I think I glossed over the settings part a little too much!
After you have the new account set up, and have logged it on at least once, log it off, and go back to the old account.
From there, go Start Button > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > File and Settings Transfer Wizard. You use the wizard to save and load the files and settings from old to new. So on the old account, you select that this is the "Old Machine"; follow the wizard, save your files and settings (flash drive, cd, whatever's easiest for ya). Then log off the old, log on the new account, head back to the File and Settings Transfer Wizard, pick "New Machine" this time, and follow the wizard the rest of the way.
How I missed that big chunk there is beyond me. I think I just need more caffeine. -
I'm doing that right now, it's compressing all of my mp3's, but i dont think theyll fit on a single CD-R.....
-
okay, it doesnt work on CD's....should I save them on a folder?
-
Can I say something...*thanks* I wanted to knnow how to change my cookies for the past fews days, so I asked legendary members of NoteBookReview.com.
Even though they tried their best at helping my out (love you for that SouthernGirl) I still couldn't get to change my cookies.
So then one day this member-a new member at that- came in and saw that i had a porblem. He read it and thought to himself that he just recently did what I wanted to do.
He then posted in the thread about his actions to solve my problems. Even though it toke him a while, he solved my problem....and his name is... Elderly crawfish !!!!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
