Hey all, i have a weird problem and was wondering if any of you could help me. I recently decided to get rid of my Norton antivirus 2002 Pro Edition because the subscription ran out, the pop ups were annoying, and I could install AVG for free anyways. The problem was, this Windows ME computer I'm talking about was incredibly messed up, and it won't even let me view the C: drive. So what I did was used the program Regseeker (excellent program I recommend it to anyone-use www.webattack.com to find it), and I deleted every file or folder I found the contained the phrases Norton, Symantec, or Script Blocking. Next, I used the programs registry search feature to delete every key containing the above phrases. Finally, I used the software's clean up feature to delete old keys, and it found some Norton files as well. There's still a problem though. Every script function on every single web page I go to is being blocked (this is good in a way because of like the mp3 sites that disable your right click function , but that's beside the point :)). So uI can't order anything or even click any buttons that are tied to Javascript. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help? I'm in a bind. Damn, I can't even click on the smiley's while creating this message to insert them!!!

LOL. I would strongly suggest running a windows repair. You're operating in a crippled state, who knows what else might be wrong. If a repair doesn't work, then I say do a fresh install. These issues can nag and if you can't see the C drive, you have serious issues.

Before reinstalling anything or combing your hard drive for more files, check your settings in IE to see that your Antivirus program didn't change the security to disallow active scripting, this sounds like the problem to me. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Security and make sure the Active Scripting is set to enable, if it is set to disable then no javascript or vbscript will execute on a page which is rather limiting.

Thanks for all the advice you guys. I fixed the problem but it's a long and tangled story, so here goes: I decided to just reinstall Norton and somehow find a way to use its own uninstaller to delete it. Unfortunately, when I restarted the system after the install, and evil error message popped up stating "Unable to read configuration files," and then the system would hang. Nothing would work, not even the keyboard or mouse. I tried safe mode, and that got me as far as the desktop then froze as well. Now I was panicing because my Mom's financial stuff was on the computer as well as my sister's science fair project LOL. So I started calling people. I called Dell (warranty expired-no help), Symantec (closed), Gulf Data Systems (a local computer company-I live in Florida-they suggested installing Windows XP), a friend (wasn't home), and lastly my Uncle. I was beginning to piece things together, since the keyboard worked and allowed me to enter safe mode, I figured it turned off somewhere inbetween (like when the error message popped up). Telling my Uncle this, he suggested to use my PS/2 keyboard from my XP machine on this computer (since the other was USB). IT WORKED. I could click OK LOL! I then had to reinstall Nvidia drivers and delete Norton again to get the computer back to where it was. This whole ordeal lasted 2 and a half hours LOL. This sounds like a success story, however, JAVASCRIPT IS STILL BEING BLOCKED!!!! I checked Norton's website and they had instructions for manually deleting the antivirus software (detailing which keys and files to delete etc.). This didn't work either. I checked the web settings and script is enabled. IDK what the prob is LOL.

P.S. I can view the C: Drive now. Turns out Folder Options were set to view web content in folders (?????); anyways I turned that off and now it works :)

Sheesh, what a ride. I don't theink the upgrade to XP is a bad idea by the way, though I'm unsure if that will resolve your JavaScript issues.
