Windows in itself is far too annoying for most, but still the world is full of people who work on it and get used to it :) Everything is annoying to begin with but once we get used to it and learn more, I am sure its a lot more enjoyable. And I say this from my personal experience with many things apart from Windows and Office and more recently, Vista :)

Edit: By the way, I don't think its as easy to say 'useless software'. :) And I dont agree with that. No, its not. Office, no matter how much we all complain about Windows and related stuff, is very very useful and its all a matter of getting in the right updates / getting used to (as the previous poster harpreet also said) / beginning to explore.. Cheers :)

    I like 2007 better.

It's the retail one right? 3 computers? I might buy it to be legit. The canadian page doesn't seem to have been updated though

Yes, Office 2007 is really nice and now I am beginning to use it so much and so easily. And I would be getting one for my personal comp., as well.

I don't know if this is 'retail' but the seller or the person from whom you buy seems to be some kind of popular vendor who has stuck a deal with MS to get this offer out. Further, I think its really a steal - Office Ultimate @ 60 USD.

(I updated my original post with news from last years announcement)

Yes, most of the countries pages, *at the moment* are just taking in email id's to get back to us later when the deal start date gets near. US is August 20. Italy is September (date not mentioned).. and so on!

    Cheers.

Last year's offer gave you a digital download and a license key to activate it. I'm pretty sure the license is a retail license. I've installed it multiple times on my laptop between OS reinstalls without a hitch, but I haven't tried installing it on multiple computers...

Apparently this offer last ran for like Sep to April I guess. But only for students with a valid institutional email id or something like that. Anyways. great offer still and great price :) Cheers.

Btw, there's no time limit on this copy of Vista right? Sometimes there are Office versions that are only like 1 year or something.

Also, how many users can use the license? 3?

Um, this is for Office, not Vista BTW. And no, there is no time limit.

I believe per the EULA, you are allowed to install Office on one mobile computer and one main workstation as dtwn83 pointed out earlier.

Nope, or none that I heard of / came across.

Yes, 3. They said on 3 machines. And I don't know all the legalities behind these users / license / machines n stuff. But I guess Yes for 3 users. I installed my previous office for myself and a system of a friend, but I installed it with the same name. Because when my friend first tried to install it with the same key but his name, it didn't work. When I asked him to do it with my name, it worked. So there, I don't know the specifics / tech behind these things.

Edit: @ Crash > I don't know this EULA thing, but I heard, and I knew from last year, that this offer is valid on 3 machines.

Last I checked, this only applied to the Home and Student Version.

You are allowed only one user per license for Office Ultimate. But that primary user can use the license on a desktop and a "portable" provided they are the primary user of both machines.

The Home and Student edition allows you to install the license onto three devices for for use by members of your family or household. Technically it isn't three "users."

Well, yes, you are right. But this special offer for students, that seems to be happening again this year, after a run last year, is for 3 machines. I read that this office ultimate student priced edition can be installed on 3 machines, and hence I was speculating that we could use it on 3 different machines, but as the same user.

Well, the only mention I saw about the number of users that I could find was in the EULA. I'm curious as to where you read that it's up to three machines. I don't doubt you, I'd just like to know.

It was somewhere in the slickdeals.net forum I think... because thats where I was looking for license infos as well as deals for office 2007 - student edition. I am checking back now. unfortunately I forgot to bookmark the page or whatever... I am searching again. Let me see if I can find it.

Yeah, they say some students managed to install it in 3 computers of the same user (and I can only assume its not legal, but just the way certain things happen). While as you and others pointed out, the EULA / laws state you can install it in 2 computers of the same user. So I guess this is more like people ending up installing stuff in more than 2 systems, and installing them as the same user. Probably this is not what the official deal says anyways, but what people end up doing I guess. I have myself installed my personal legit cd pack of office pro and other versions single user license on many computers I had to use all these years while moving around for my research work. So I dont know the legal stuff behind this neither do I know how it worked, but probably you are right and I read that EULA thing myself as well as some faq' from some of the vendors around who participate in this program and it says 2 of course, I don't deny that.

Yeah, dtwn is right. Probably there is only two and I checked with a guy from the local vendor here who will be coming out with this ultimate steal offer. He was not really well informed but he still did say its officially under this 2 install for the same user thing (will I be right to assume then its one desktop / one portable?) but then he said since this is a student offer of the ultimate version, the licensing thing details extend beyond just the EULA for the ultimate and he said he had users tell him they were able to install it on more than 2 machines / systems. brrrrrrrrr... I am confused now!!

Anyway, whatever - When I get it I will pay for it myself, and I will use on my wonderful XPS.. so at the moment I don't think I'll worry too much about 2 or 3.. ;-) :p :p

As I recall, the Office Ultimate that come with this offer are just like the retail versions. I don't remember them being offered with a different EULA. It is highly unlikely.

erm... I understood after I did the deal last year that it woud not be the same deal this year, and I participated in a survey consisting of what deals do you want to see here. and it had vista, office for mac, and various other software on there. I was under the impression that it would not be office ultimate 2007 again. notice the site does not say what software will be available.

EDIT: yes, the graphic does have office 2007, but i still doubt it will be the same deal

Probably a stupid question, so bear with me.

Right now I have Office 2007 Professional. Can I upgrade to Ultimate through this deal and then install the Office Pro on another machine in the house, or will I have to buy the Office pro again?

Kudos to the OP for finding the sweet deal!

    Hi People,

A small clarification please - I figured out that I won't be able to get the English language version of this offer, here in Italy. It will be in Italian.

Is it possible for me to get the Italian Version and then download some english language packs and use it on my system? Would I be able to change the language of the complete Office Ultimate set? And are there any language packs available for such changes?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

If you have a retail copy of Office 2007 Pro, then you can uninstall it and install it on another computer. The Ultimate version you buy through this deal isn't an upgrade version, it's a retail version.

Under "Additional products" it shows "Office additional language packs", but hat may be not until 9//8/2007. I don;t know if that date is ONLY for the Vista Ultimate for $65, or for the whole list (Vista Ultimate, Visio, Office Language Packs)

I've read the thread. I'm just asking because some people say one, some say two, some say three, others say last year it was one desktop and one laptop, and yet others say that it's different this year...so I don't know which to believe. Anybody know? Before I waste time installing it on my desktop when I want it on my laptop (which I have yet to buy).
