I'm wondering about how the Vista Upgrade CD/DVD will work.

Is it an OEM version or a update version?

Also, will they be locked to initially install on only your respective companies computer?

If you're getting it through the Microsoft Upgrade Program, it will be 32bit OEM that will be locked into the computer for life. Update or fresh I don't know, but either way the option is there to clean install.

Well, if I'm getting it for a laptop and If I wanted to not install the Vista Upgrade on that laptop, could I instead install it on a desktop?

Or is it locked to that computer manufacturer for the laptop?

My Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop came with 32 bit Vista Home Premium installed, as well as a dark navy re-install disk.

However, I also got a Vista Anytime Upgrade something or other disk as well. Why did I get that? And can I give it to my Dad and let him install Vista on his computer?

Sometimes the companies do lock the cd to a specific manufacturer's computer. Like Dell cds will only with Dell computers. But I'm not sure now, they might work with other computers. Under my experience, I had it happen twice...1) with my dell pc I was unable to install Windows Pro on a Gateway computer 2) my Sony's pc pretty much locks the cd from not letting any other pcs use it. But this was a while ago.
