For $9.99, the cost for vista basic, does that cover two (or more) versions of xp home upgrade?

And would you receive two copies of vista basic?

I just got two copies of xp home upgrade for less then $80 total and I want to convert to vista.

Could you be more specific? The Vista Upgrade Program, as I understand it, is only good with the purchase of a new system--not the OS.

    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/techguarantee/worldwide.mspx

It's not just for manus, it's for boxed products and oem products too. basically you could buy a $109 media center oem version of xp at newegg, and get home premium for it.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116171

There is the media center/home premium link. Buy it, and you'll save $40.

You just gotta have a system that has been upgraded somehow lately... Although you don't gotta prove it O_O

My systems have all been upgraded during the past year... I'm more then qualified.

All ya gotta do is pay shipping costs for Vista to be sent, and you'll get your own Vista, for buying Xp.

BTW, you didn't hear it from me, but...

    http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...5&Pn=Windows_XP_Home_Edition_Upgrade_with_SP2

It's OOS online, try getting a store with a 110% guarantee to price match it. Then follow my link. If someone would answer my question, you could get two vista basics for around $80-$90.

You won't be getting Vista Aero. If that's a big problem, then go spend $150 somewhere else :p

The thing is, I'm not sure if the $9.99 covers both xps, or if you gotta resubmit, or some other crap.

One final thing: What you may get is some 'special' version of Vista, possibly the same version companies get. It may only be able to be put on one pc. Ah the joys of cheap vista....

BTW, if you do follow the path of cheap vista basics, you must do this:

"Enclose as your proofs of purchase:

The ORIGINAL product box top with the product name and barcode clearly identified from the product, and a copy of your sales receipt that clearly shows the date and store name where you acquired your product. Products must be purchased between October 26, 2006 and February 28, 2007. Mail must be postmarked by March 31, 2007.

Note: If submitting Proof Of Purchase for Tech Bench SKUs, please send in the DVD case insert, front page of the manual and receipt of installation from the authorized retailer.

Please send this receipt, and the required proof of purchase materials to:
    Microsoft Corporation
    PO BOX 1096
    Buffalo NY 14240-1096

Please allow 4-6 weeks after general availability for delivery of your product."

So you're asking whether or not a single $9.99 payment covers the upgrade for both of your XP Home upgrades?

I wouldn't think so. But I would also wonder if you can do two upgrades from the same address. Oftentimes, there is a one-per-household limitation on these offers.

I just did the checkout, then I'd hafta send them the upc, and I got this:

"Customers limited to one Windows Vista boxed product for every one corresponding qualifying Windows XP boxed product purchase. "

I think this is golden. For each xp you get, you get one vista.

You could stock up on this above. Update all your pcs with cheap vista.

One thing though. It starts shipping Jan 30.

It says 'expect 4-6 weeks delivery after 'general availability'

LOL... if you go this route, you'll get alot of vista on the cheap, but they ain't gonna show up until april or near april.

So I have a copy of Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

I bought my PC from a reseller, and they installed XP SP2 from a boxed version originally, not OEM or anything.

I have the original XP install disk and serial number.

Can I request Windows Vista Home Basic or what?

it can't be before october 26th.

You gotta pay them $9.99, then send them a copy of the receipt, and your upc code.

Wait until you pay by credit card, then it'll give instructions.

Don't worry though, they don't bill you until they receive the upcs.

Although I wouldn't want Microsoft having my cc without a good reason...

Just follow what I said above.

Yeah, Meh indeed, I'm not going to bother with Vista until I get a PC that has it pre-installed, and even then I'm starting my migration to Linux now, so by the time I get my next PC I may only be using Windows for work stuff and the few things I can't do on Linux.
