Hello.
i'm wondering which web browser is the safest and possibly the most user-friendly.
Safari? Opera? Firefox? Google Chrome? IE?
I would like to know your opinions. Thank you.
-
Firefox is the most secure browser.
Chrome the fastest.
I recommend a Internet Security Program as well though for Phishing Protection. -
It's all opinion. Do your research by yourself so you don't get bandwagon or fanboy answers. -
The general consensus is that Firefox is the safest. However, like McGrady alluded to, you just opened a can of worms. This should be interesting.
-
The safest browser is none. Don't go online.

I like kingbob's answer the best. Very true.
Anyways, I have no idea how this happened. My friend was watching a movie off of a website, and all of a sudden, the computer turned off. When she rebooted, everything was screwed: couldn't browse, couldn't listen to music, couldn't do system restore, etc. The computer ended up being formatted. Very weird. This happened while using firefox. It's weird because she always went on that site to watch movies and it was all of a sudden.
I'm not looking for a particular answer. Just looking to read about your opinions and experiences.
Thank you. -

Yeah, depends on what movie on which Adult - I mean movie site got that trojan up her hard drive...
Anyway, I am falling in love with blazing fast Google Chrome right now.. it gives you SO much more screen space and is ZIPPY! -
For me...FF
AND...it's all personal choice. What one really enjoys...it's pretty obvious there will be others that don't. So I think being respectful of other member's posts should come into play here!Well, actually in every thread on the forum!

Lol. I thought I read YouTube, not movies. Now that I think about it, yeah, what kind of site were you guys on. =x
Even if you did get a virus, where's the AV to detect and stop it.
And to sonoritygenius, if you want screen real estate, F11 with FF. Can't beat that. -
dont get far from those
-
I prefer FF and Chrome, but still use FF most of the time
-
She was watching Bleach on this anime website. Everything was fine, until that one time. I don't know. Maybe she did something without knowing.
I think I'll give Chrome a try.
What about Opera? Nobody hasn't said anything about that. Any opinions or experiences? -
If you want safest browser, Chrome is not the safest. It has the most bugs of any of the browsers but that's a given since it it also the newest.
-
Firefox for sure.

why even bother with the safest browser?? it doesn't prevent your computer from getting infected.
Just get an Antivirus software. -

Of course, one needs to exercise caution and work with a sense of expediency. So, for example, I won't use IE except for the Win Updates and FF for those sites where Opera fails for one reason or the other. I don't like the setup of Safari. -
Basically Firefox/Opera are good enough. Chrome...perhaps but it might be an easy target since it's not that mature as the other two.
I would say Safari for Windows as a strong no -
The way I see it...
About security: The biggest issue isn't which browser you chose (among the popular ones), but how responsibly you surf and that you allow it to update automatically. So many people will install any fun thing that passes by on their screen, while ignoring the security updates that protect you.
Most user-friendly: In my opinion a combination of Firefox and Internet Explorer. I've come to really depend on the spell-checker and easy customization through add-ons available in Firefox. Since some sites only work with IE, it's good to keep that up to date and configured the way you like it as well. Of course I haven't given Opera a shot, so my opinion isn't all that objective. -
-
Wow:
.
-
Yeah, it's a wonderful add-on. Works like it should.
-
yep ietab works great
-
The safest browser might be Lynx/Links/Link2
But you'd have to sacrifice a feature or two. -
if anybody mentioned it - I quite like Opera.
I was originally using FF3 and IE7 (passwords in IE7 stored under my fingerprint)
Opera 9.62 - switched and stayed (9.63 now)
But as has been previously mentioned, it really is opinion. -
Opera users, go try Opera 10 Alpha. 30% faster ;]
-
Just tried Alpha...
a) I miss my start page with the 9 links - I grew rather fond of it...
Going back to Opera 9.63... -
. Use the one that fits your needs and "pleases" you!
. Use the ones where developers are up to speed in closing the security holes as they occur
. Rule of thumb: the minute you know about security leaks, it is likely (100%) that you have been exposed to them. Pattern, users always get a patch/fix within hours or (few) days after announcement.
. Interesting read here regarding the latest updates from all major browsers, regarding security issues!
