hi, 3 days ago i bought Asus N550LF with Core i5 4200U processor, it came with Win8 and the seller recommended me not to upgrade to 8.1 because i'll get issues, is it true or he wants me to pay him to do the upgrade, i have the upgrade ready in Windows Store

Unless drivers are problematic for that machine, Windows 8.1 is a step in the right direction (albeit a long way off from the proper one). Just make sure you have 8.1 specific drivers.

Certain laptops were reported to have serious problems with 8.1, and I don't know if all of this has been resolved. You should ask this question in the ASUS forum.

The compatibility checker only checks that a particular machine can be somehow made to work with Windows 8.1, not that the upgrade will be smooth sailing.

For enthusiasts there's not much of a difference between the two, but for ordinary folks who may never have even updated a driver before, jumping through the hoops involved in making a computer work properly can be quite challenging.

That doesn't mean anything. Are they Windows 8.1 specific drivers.
