Looks like the gloves are off and true colors just showed fully. The fight is on for privacy now:

Apple, Micro$h4ft, Adobe, Symantec, and a handful of other tech companies just began publicly lobbying Congress to pass the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), a bill that would give corporations total legal immunity when they share private user data with the government and with each other. Many of these companies have previously claimed to fight for their users' privacy rights, but by supporting this bill they've made it clear that they've abandoned that position, and are willing to endanger their users' security and civil rights in exchange for government handouts and protection.

I am only surprised about Symantec, a security company doing this is just wrong man.
And heck about Salesforce, almost every company I worked at used Salesforce as their CRM system. All their data, credit card info of the members they added in their database and the leads is in the hands of Salesforce, those companies trusted them blindly. -
Big data is still a large part of what Symantec does though, and that data is valuable to governmentsSpartan@HIDevolution likes this.

This all goes back to m what I was saying. The get their foot in the door and then bang. Just like when seat belt laws went into effect, first it was we will never stop you for that alone to now everone must be belted or you get stopped. Once you let them in watch out.
It just keeps getting better and better. -

And people use to question us why we are making a big deal out of the telemetry and privacy invasion updates in Windows 8 / 7 in that thread I made. They were like, so what if they have my data, what are they gonna do with it? It was one member constantly saying that that I added him to my ignore list but this is just one example what they can do with it. -
I only regularly do business with 4 of these 8.

I remember when Adobe went subscription only, I said on another site that I thought they were testing the waters to see how much people would push back.
People just don't care [most people] so these companies and our government know how much they can get away with.hmscott likes this. -

Welcome to Linux World! Oh, wait, some professional software doesn't work on Linux at all. =( So rather Welcome to the Linux World, privacy-aware consumers almost everyone, and enjoy your stay! As for creative professionals - software hell awaits!

Me too, when they did that, I thought they would go back to the fully paid software packages as noone would want to add yet another subscription to their bills... internet, phones, antivirus, VPN, and now Adobe Suite.....
But guess what? Everyone went ahead and signed up and Adobe was happy! Some people are just muppets, give em anything and they'll eat it. -
I can see the subscription base. What I can not see is the extreme privacy issues. It is just too much IMHO.

Where are the telecoms in all this? Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner, Cox, etc?
And surprise, surprise, surprise... Microsoft. They are already collecting as much data as they can with Windows 10. Ready to have a goldmine of data for the government and the highest bidder. For shame. Really need to have a non-profit come up with a competing OS to Windows.Last edited: Sep 24, 2015 -
HTWingnut,
There are nonprofit OS'es which are Open Source, they are known as Linux or other ~Nixes.ajkula66 likes this. -
I was just about to say...Linux!
It's so crazy how all these poor saps are handing over their info on a silver platter to all these companies without knowing...Windows 10 is MS's data mining king....and guess where it's going....surprise surprise. -
Office 365 is doing very well too. Same with Google Docs. As is Google as a whole. And of course people happily post all sorts of private information on Facebook every day. Heck, even Ashley Madison is still alive and kicking.
It's exasperating for those of us who know enough to know how dangerous this can be, but the vast majority of people just don't care about privacy at all. It's not like they don't know about the implications either - Ashley Madison, Jennifer Lawrence, Sony - even the mainstream media is constantly trying to warn people, to no avail.
At this point I don't know if anything short of a Nazi-like government coming to power and using all this collected data to identify and send "undesirables" to concentration camps will get people to wake up...Last edited: Sep 30, 2015Starlight5, Hidef1080, toughasnails and 1 other person like this. -
Guys, someone collecting some telemetry != the Holocaust, or Nazism. These words and ideas are thrown around too glibly. Stop exemplifying Godwin's Law.

Anyone notice how annoying adobe flash has been when an update is needed? Having it not set to automatic update has been a smart choice for many of us and now I notice when an update is needed instead of a friendly reminder when you boot up, a toolbar is posted up top of every webpage including pages that don't even support flashplayer. Whats worse is even when you close them they continue to nag you after every site you visit including sites you already closed the toolbar for previously. Watching everybody like a hawk lol and no doubt like the other companies listed are mining that data in the form of updates. I'm 100% sure more companies are doing this that aren't listed.

I don't notice that problem nor does other family members whom have Flash player plugin installed. Maybe if you can provide a screen shot others can verify what your asking about?
Unfortunately they are so many Distro that it will never dominate the Windows or IOs market shares. Cry all you want but until Linux aka Unix becomes one SOLD O/S they will never beat Windows market shares. Unix works great for Servers but for Consumer grade people Grew up in DOS or Windows 95 and beyond and it never looked back. If Linux(UNIX) was competing at that time that would be different but Windows got more then a leg up on them and IOs and never looked back regardless of how bad Windows 8 and 10 came out it is by far the Most used and like or hated how you want to view it but it is the Elephant in the room.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 3, 2015 -
IOS is a toy OS for tablets. Not for serious workflow. Windows is dominant mainly due to gaming and professional applications. And that choice of distros on a common underlying core gives you so much freedom and flexibility. Understand that if you don't like a user interface, there's choices. If you want easy to use, there is choices, if you want to tinker under the hood you can. You even have access to the source code. Sure, there's some learning curve involved, but what's your excuse? Steam even works well on Linux if you game. IOS is proprietary and OSX is even more closed source and walled garden than Windows is. IOS for me is for content consumption. Not for creating anything. And I use Windows and Linux, and even OSX.

While steam for gaming is catching on it is still not the bleeding edge that Windows provides for gaming. If it were M$ would be in real trouble. On that note, for Windows 7 gamers, by 2020 Steam and Linux may be much more viable.

The ideal setup would be a Linux system for work and a Steam OS System for games, but what about Origin? I have half my games on Origin for PC as well.
These companies just betrayed billions of people. Apple and Microsoft included.
