I used to be able to search for things like "windows defender" or "windows update" or "msconfig" and they'd show up in the start bar.

I just reformatted and this isn't the case anymore.

    Help?

Did you disable indexing and or Windows Search?

Both of those are necessary to search using the Start Menu. Perhaps your index is not completed yet, since you reformatted?

    I rebuilt the index.

    Both are enabled.

This is actually pretty important to me. Do I have to index my entire C drive?

Hmmmm... maybe it's not the index. I can't imagine that you made such changes to it that it wouldn't index those items. Hmmm...

Are other things in your index searchable via the Start Menu? File names, songs, etc...?

I haven't changed anything. This is default Windows 7.

I added my entire C drive. Plenty of things are showing up, just not like before. Now I'm getting a ton of drivers/ random files. =\

    edit:

Another example -- I used to type in "Comodo" and it would automatically show Comodo, even though there isn't really a "comodo.exe" I don't think, it would let me launch the program.

No point in letting it index all of those other locations.

What about filenames, song titles? Do those come up in searches?

My downloads folder items will show up. I'm adding my Users folder and Start Menu. Apparently that should be enough... rebuilding the index.

    edit: Nope.

Solved by customizing my start bar to include control panel and programs.

    Seriously? Wow! hahaha

I"ve always changed my Start Menu settings from the get go and added that in, so I've never known life without it. Looks like we both learned something good this time.
