Hello, my friends.
I am planning to buy IBM ThinkPad R60 series mashine in reasons of its cost, but I want be assured that Windows Server 2003 operating system could be installed on this notebook. I need this OS for running MS Project Server 2007 with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Sharepoint Services 3.0.
Has anyone any experience of installing server OS on this or related model? If so, please describe your installation process.
Thank you!

Don't know about the Thinkpad R60 but I've tried installing it on a few laptops (Dell 640m, Asus W7J) and while it does install, a lot of devices are not installed and Windows 2003 Server drivers from Dell/Asus are non-existant. You can get around it by running it as a virtual machine using Virtual PC 2007 (free from Microsoft) or VMWare and I've found the performance to be acceptable.

Thank you, Chemistry.
So, you first boot compartible OS like XP, then start VMWare Server 2003 mashine and work in this virtual environment. Tell me please, what amount of memory was installed on those notes (is 512Mb enough), and have you run on virtual server such heavy applications as SQL Server?
Thanks a lot! -
windows server 2003 does run on all the thinkpad series.
but sadly u cant use the thinkpad system update to install
the drivers automatically, u hv to do it manually.
in ur case u may consult the lenovo website:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-64283.html
if u purchase the 32 bit version, u can use the drivers for windows XP.
but if u purchase the 64 bit, there's no way u can continue the installation
since lenovo doesnt support XP 64 bit.
if u still insist to install the 64 bit, u can visit the manufacturer's website
for the drivers. they might have it. if they do, pls only download the drivers
for XP 64 Pro. consider urself lucky if they hv the drivers for windows server.
good luck !!!
