I've tried putting a shortcut to Throttlestop in my Windows 8 startup folder, and the program did not run at startup. I also tried making a new task scheduler item for Throttlestop, but that did not seem to work either. I can see Throttlestop in the list of startup items in the task manager, but the actual program won't run at startup.

    Any ideas?

Did you follow the Task Scheduler method exactly as shown in the second post of the ThrottleStop Guide Thread?

I haven't had a second look at Windows 8 for a long time but I think other users have said that this method still works.

Yes, I followed that guide step by step and when I log in to Windows 8 I still do not see Throttlestop in the list of running programs in the task manager. No matter what I do I cannot get Throttlestop to run at startup.

Have you already tried a clean reinstall? Check the startup entries in MSconfig and enable it if it's not already. And make sure you're downloading from a reputable source.

Go to Control panel, Action centre, click Change Windows smartscreen settings and switch off.

I fixed it by doing this:

Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Power Options -> Choose what the power button does

Then uncheck 'Turn on fast start up'

I think this is to do with issues with Window 8's new hybrid shutdown.

You could also try creating another entry in Task Schedule Library with different name( Throttlestop 1 or similar), I think the registry got corrupted.

Hey just made an account to reply to this, since I was having trouble getting it to start on boot as well and used this thread to help me.

In the task scheduler, did you click "create basic task" or "create task?" They both have the same options so I using the non-basic one is actually easier since it's a tabbed window. If you use the basic version, it defaults options to make it to where it WILL NOT START UP if the computer is on battery, as well as turning off if the computer switches off of ac power. I had an issue where Throttlestop was starting, then closing after I'd unplug it. That was the problem for me, maybe you too?

For me, disabling fast start up did not help.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

Upon further investigation, I found that Throttlestop was indeed running at startup when set through the task scheduler, but the program's taskbar icon was not showing up most of time time. This gave the impression that the program was not running when it really was. I checked the voltages through CPU-Z and they were in fact lower than the default voltages, meaning that the program was running.

Anyone know how to make the throttlestop icon show up in the taskbar? I've set it to "show icon and notifications", but it does not show up most of the time.

Right click on your taskbar -> Properties -> Customize (notification area) -> look for Throttlestop, and select "show icon and notifications". Hopefully that works. :)

I've tried that, but unfortunately that still does not make the Throttlestop icon appear despite Throttlestop running (as evidenced by task manager).

I finally figured out a way to get this feature working in Windows 7. The fix should also work with Windows 8 but I need a beta tester. Send me a PM if you want to join the beta testing team. It might take me until next weekend before I have some time to finalize this fix for ThrottleStop but it is definitely on the top of the things to do list.
