I've been reading alot about FireFox but I don't really get what it is, I mean I know it's a browser but how is it diffrent from IE7 what are the advantages?
I have always used IE and just recently learnd about FireFox.
-
Internet Explorer runs a distant 3rd as compared to Opera and Firefox, in my opinion. Try them out and see which you prefer.
Both are faster, have more options, more secure, better fonts and readability.
I keep IE for some websites, but I use Firefox and Opera 99.9% of the time.
They are both free--try it, you will like it. -

Fireox can be tweaked so it loads pages faster. There are other reasons but I use it for this reason
Also it is customizeable -
I have it for performance and better looks.
-
What can you costomize?
-
Quite a bit. There's changes from skins to adding more functionality to increasing security. Check out firefox's extension and theme page to get an idea.
-
skins. the add-ons are way better than IE too.
i also tweaked FF to make it even faster -
more customizable, lots of add-ons available.
faster!! -

There are a lot of people saying the same things so you get the picture that it really is better than IE
-
Would it be worth going to the beta now or waiting for the full version?
-
Depends, if you want to be able to test out the whole gamut of extensions, then you'll want to start with Firefox 2. But if you want the bleeding edge in speed and default options go with FF3 beta 5, that is what I am running right now and I loves it...but, there are several plugins that I'm missing at the moment.
-
Is it working well for you such as are you having problems loading pics, or videos on any sites?
-
As far as loading pix and videos, thats not a problem. But if you are worried there is an extension for firefox that lets you run IE in it. It's called IETab.
-
The best thing you could have done (instead of making this thread), is searching in google for firefox, going to the firefox website, downloading and installing firefox, then trying it out!
That way you would have known for yourself why you wouldn't go back to IE
Self help is the best help.

I just installed FireFox3 beta5 played with it for a few minutes and now it is my default browser. I like it!

Welcome to the club.
-
Wait how do I open new tabs?
Edit: Never mind I just had the Tab bar closed.
Next stop Ubuntu! Mabey
-
ctrl t is the hotkey...in case u didnt know
-
Do it! There won't be nearly so much malware to worry about with Ubuntu and Firefox. Either is safer than Windows and IE as you've been using them; together you'll have a top-notch setup.
-
I like the look of Ubuntu but no iTunes? Thats lame I use iTunes every time I am on my laptop.
Haha!!!!! FireFox checks my spelling! This is sweet!
Edit: Every time I come onto the forums I have to re-login now is there any way to change it? -
I'm using FF 2, but try going to Tools > Options > Privacy, and check what your cookies are set to.
-
In Ubuntu/Firefox: Edit - Preferences - Remember Passwords for Sites.
-
I got it just had to allow cookies for this page.
-
I'm very glad you enjoy Firefox, welcome to better browsing. Recommend it to everyone you know to keep the internet alive, and be sure to post again if you have any more comments or questions. Just asking, what features do you like about Firefox? Anything that hasn't been mentioned yet?
-
One word addons! & themes as well.
-
Adblock Plus add on; get it!
-
Yes, it's very good, i disabled it because it was causing trouble for a couple of sites i visit but now i think it wasn't worth it. I'll install it again when it becomes compatible with 3.0pre.
-
Unfortunately a lot of the add ons and themes aren't available for FF3 beta 5 yet.
-
well ya its beta. its to be expected. im still using FF 2 atm due to that.
-
when i got my laptop the only reason i used IE7 was to download Firefox

Me too!!! But I still use both browsers.(IE for other users to use) -
is ff 3 beta 5 a resource hog like 2 is?
ff also needs to loadup faster on cold boots -
In short without making a page long post, no it isn't, and it starts in about a second for me on cold boot, and 3/4ths of a second on warm or so.
-
hmmmmmmm. how low of resources are we talking? IE low?
-
=.=; If you want to know, you can try it, it'll take all of 1min. It's better than me explaining everything in detail as the release notes for Firefox 3 beta 5 already explain it nicely. There is too much detail and change and information even though your question seems simple.
-
im using ff 3 beta 5 and it was about the same startup time on cold boot as ff2.
resource wise its a tad better -
Wait for prefetch to learn about it, it'll get to 1sec cold load in no time.
-
i made some FF tweaks in FF2, do I need to redo them?
In any case I can check, but I don't even remember what I did, it was awile ago. I have to look them up again -
No, you have to redo them but it's recommended you don't. Firefox 3 doesn't need to be tweaked therefore it isn't meant to be tweaked. That's why installing something like Fasterfox will only make it slower.
-
lol @ this
I think I'm still going to go ahead and tweak.
Tired of searching need FireFox info
