haha i love the barcode battler video
yea, i will be buying my computers with Windows XP until Microsoft stops making crappy OS's.
I know this topic has been beaten to death, but:
I still can't get over the fact that they stole basically all of their ideas from Mac OS X. I'm not a Mac user or promoter, I just can't stand that MSoft didn't get a lawsuit for this.
check this out,
Windows Vista did not steal ideas from Mac OS X!

WOW...not that I'm in complete LOVE with VIsta, but that cnet article could possibly qualify for one of the 10 worst Tech articles in the past 25 years. The ONLY reason Vista is on there is due to it's recency.
Vista really isn't all that bad, it's just new and not well-adopted. People aren't going to throw tons of resources at something the majority isn't using (unless they're trying to get ahead). Half the people that complain about Vista don't even know what they're talking about, it's just an easy thing to complain about, so they can feel like they're being heard.
I'd say that 80% of people complain about Vista simply because its "different", and they aren't used to it. I love my Vista, sure there are some quirky problems...but I'm also running the 64-bit version, which means a considerable LESS support from software/hardware vendors.
It just so happens that XP is becoming reliable that people don't have a "need" to switch. The only reason I'm running Vista is because I got it for free, but that doesn't mean it sucks. I've actually found it faster, cleaner, and much more aesthetically pleasing than XP.
That said, Vista isn't TERRIBLE and it's not AWESOME either. It's just fine...it did mimic OSX, and playnine that video is a classic...hilarious. -

i find it hilarious that OSX promoters blast Vista for being an OSX clone which it absolutely isn't. as well, those same OSX users NEVER say anything about OSX ripping off *nix.
i find it even more hilarious that so many users blast Vista's new UAC which is a "feature" that has existed in *nix since time began.

The Unix implementation of user control differs from Vista's UAC in that with Unix, you (a limited rights user) access the root account. With Vista, you run as administrator at all times with some stupid authorization dialogs pestering you every minute. You are correct that Unix (and Linux) has had user control (and few of it's programs need admin rights, not so with Windows) for a while, and no one has complained of its intrusiveness. But Microsoft's idea of user control is terrible.

You're not a Mac promoter but you believe they stole all of their ideas from Mac OS X? So everything Apple does is new and fresh right? Just like the iPhone
Cause Apple never "steals" any ideas from anyone else...
Seriously, the only difference is the Apple fans, who are great at opening their mouths and bashing everything else.
I haven't used vista yet (except at a friend's house a few days ago) so I can't really comment on it. Though I doubt it should be on this list since it's so new, and we really can't judge this OS yet. -
Just like Apple and their infamous TV ads, I see bunch of resemblances do you?
-
lol, one could argue that Windows OS original concept is a direct rip off of the Mac OS. Vista is a good OS, any one remember how bad XP was when it first came out, most of it simply because most didn't have computers fast enough to run. Yeah, if Vista makes the list at 10 then XP should be 9. Did ME make the list?
-
ok, some of the stuff on the list deserved to be there and some don't
BUT THEY CANNOT CRACK ON TAMAGOTCHI'S! spent hours taking care of my dog/cat and the dinosaur (my favorite). Not to mention they spawned the digimon tamagotchi's, then the digivices, then pokemon Tamagotchi's. fond memories of my childhood.....
FORGET YOU CNET! I NEVER LIKED YOUR RATINGS! -
I actually thought the Barcode Battler was intriguing. You have to admit the fact that the enemy had approximately 10x your attack/hp/(unknown last attribute) was pretty hilarious.
-
I agree. I remember owning one of these when I was just a kid, and I don't know why an adult is criticizing a children's toy; did the Cnet reviewer actually expect to enjoy playing with such a simple amusement? It is very naive of them to put such a product on such a list, especially considering that the Tomagatchi generated more revenue than the entire worth of the Cnet business.

Referencing to a CNET article is like dragging Hitler in an online discussion: it automatically voids any and all credibility the discussion ever had or could have had
-
I lost respect for CNET after I read their HEL80 review. Absolute crap.
I don't know about you guys, but I find Vista to be a good operating system. I purchased Home Premium for a multimedia computer I was building for my friend.. and it runs wonderfully. The Media Center built in handles everything I need for the TV tuner I installed.. the Aero interface looks nice, and Vista seems to boot and run faster in general than XP.
Lack of hardware support? It's a new operating system.. and it handles MANY MANY more hardware configurations than OS X, because it isn't restricted to specific hardware.
Lack of software support? ^^ It's a new operating system. Even so, everything I needed from it ran perfectly.
Copying from Apple? Yes.. the sidebar probably had some influence from OS X, but there are plenty of other widget engines out there (google gadgets, yahoo widgets, etc.). Are people saying that they DON'T want the sidebar just because OS X has a similar feature? -
One thing Vista DIDN'T copy from OSX, the live search. It's possible the best feature on Vista. Hit the start button and start typing away will get you anything in your harddrive index.
-
lol, my virtual dog ran away, never to be seen, ever.
Anyways, the guy who wrote that is a complete idiot. No proffesional writer would ever refer readers to Wikipedia!!! (he does so in terrible tech product 9). Furthermore, if he is going to talk about something, he has to do research before talking garbage. A rootkit doesn't leave a computer at the mercy of 'hackers', it leaves it at the mercy of malware. Secondly, rootkits are easy to detect by anti-virus software. The hard part is deleting them.
I wanted to read what he said about Vista, but made a quick stop to see what he said about Sony, and decided to close the window. I bet the 'review' of Vista is just as bad as the Sony one. -

OSX has that feature on upper right corner !!
But putting Vista in the list is really unfortunate.....I like Vista...!!
CNET has lost its credibility in the reviews and articles long back......Such stuff is surely not gonna get it back.... -
I wholeheartedly agree.

Particularly when the 'zine decided to start reviewing automobiles and what have you.

And where did the Mac OS come from? Jobs and his companions didn't dream it up. They stole the idea from Xerox PARC.

And Xerox PARC stole their ideas from the ABACUS.

CNET sucks donkey ****s.
My tamagotchi died because it takes 3 turds an hour because i overfeed it and i accidentally left it alone for a day...

Don't make really stupid posts. That's really pathetic.
Basically all of their ideas...
Let me explain it to you since you don't seem to understand. Your post gave the impression that you thought that Apple never steals any ideas and that everything they make is new. I disagreed.
Know nothing about? Just because I don't own Vista doesn't mean I don't know anything about it, and I can certainly post my thoughts on this article that rates a new OS as one of the worst tech products in the last 25 years. Get over yourself.
So by that logic, OSX is also a pretty lame OS in your book? Because they also get paid to make OS' and since MS "copied" from Apple, they're pretty similar OS'.
Anyways, I agree that Vista is ridiculously overpriced and it's not revolutionary at all. Does that mean it's one of the worst tech products in the last 25 years? Absolutely not...
I don't know why you took my original post so personally. -
Who cares if this company copied from that company? Does it somehow steal away from the "coolness" of using Vista? The OS still has the functionality, does it not? It still does what you want it to, does it not? Honestly, stop this worthless bickering.
-
Please re-read my last reply.
Whatever you say buddy.
Don't worry, I'm not taking this personally at all. -
how big was that fish?
-
You guys need to get your own post...couldn't you PM all this bickering, it's just wasting space.
-
He said he'd never used Vista except at a friend's house a few days ago. You're selectively dismissing some of Thibault's comments, and twisting others. Also, he and anyone else can post as they please at NBR provided the comments are within the Forums rules. Yours are not: telling someone to shut the **** is way out of line.
-
Let me explain it to you one last time. I'm not talking about specific Vista features, I'm only talking ABOUT it. I know what it is, I know of the advertised improvements over XP and of its new features (and I have seen them on my roommates and friends comptuers). That's not even the point. My original point was: it's a new OS and it is too early to judge if it's a good or bad product. Just like when XP was first released and many thought it was terrible.
So should Vista be on the top ten list of terrible products? No. It should not. This opinion is based on what I know of this OS and others have agreed with this idea.
In fact, MS has made terrible OS' that aren't on this list. So why should Vista be there if MS' inferior products aren't.
Thank you.
I never intended for this to get out of control... But apparently I'm not allowed to voice my opinion about Vista.
I apologize for everyone who wasted their time reading these arguments and I'll be more than happy to refund your time.

Alright guys, chill out. Discussion here is getting a little heated, and I don't really want to lock the thread.

If the scroll wheel on my MX518 breaks while I try going through all this bickering, heads will roll.

Strongly agree... Cnet is probably the worst site for notebook stuff... -
I agree with everything you said here.
If you wrote this to begin with instead of your pretentious condescending original message, all would have been fine. -
If they had spyware on their site then it'd make #1 because it's currently #2.
