You don't have to modify any files like some have suggested to make the touchpad work in firefox, just upgrade your touchpad drivers, if it's a synpatic touchpad (all I've had experience with), and get the latest firefox 1.5 and you're all set. :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

I'm having the same issue, with my inspiron 6000......i believe it is an "Alp Electrics" touchpad...not sure if that is related. Anyone have an idea if this fix will work? I am using firefox 1.5...

-ZD you did? That should've worked as it worked for me. You went to the synaptics website and installed the latest drivers and not the ones from your laptop manufacturers website? If that didn't work then try adding the command lines into your firefox ini file. Sorry I can't remember the specifics of it but you can do a search on google and there you can find forums that discuss this problem.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hey Mike-

Thanks for the reply. I did try the drivers off the synaptics website, yes. No love.

If you have any advice on modding the ini file, or know where I could find an FAQ, I would be much obliged...

    thx-ZD

I still haven't gotten my directional scroll to work perfectly in Firefox.. It needs a second to react. I'd be up for a solution should anyone have one - I'm running FF 1.5 and have tried the latest Synaptics driver several times.

Make sure you have the following processes always running and set to run on bootup:

    C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe
    C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe

Okay here it is... SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY OR FAQ OR SOMETHING OR REWRITE IT AND MAKE IT A STICKY PLEASE.

Add the following lines to your "SynTPEnh.ini" file in your Synaptics folder located in Program Files.

    [Mozilla]
    FC = "MozillaWindowClass"
    SF = 0x10000000
    SF |= 0x00004000

Exactly as shown, doesn't matter if you put it at the beginning or last entry.

    Cheers,
    Mike

hello, my touchpad scroll works with the latest synaptic drivers but i get more frequent "blue screens" with it. so i decided to stick with the factory drivers from hp but again my scroll does not work with firefox.
So i tried to edit the ini files with this information but. still it wont work unfortunately :(

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? That is super, duper strange Neero.

Wanna let me have a remote session on your laptop? :D

That way I can fix it myself.

    Oh well.

You should install the latest java, Firefox, and synaptics driver then restart, add the lines above and it SHOULD work.

I'm puzzled at why it won't work and why you're getting blue screens just from installing drivers for your touchpad. Weird.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I was not getting blue screens from OLD (v7.13.0.1 J2)drivers but it will not work firefox 1.5 scrolls

the NEW drivers (v8.1.2) from synaptics works great with firefox 1.5 scrolling but i get more frequent blue screens with it unfortunately.

so I tried editing the INI file with the OLD driver but scroll still wont work for me.
I'll search more to find a solution otherwise i just use the arrow buttons to scroll for now.

well i completerly uninstalled the synaptic drivers from the add/remove programs in control panel, then re-booted and just let windowsXp pro sp2 handle the driver. Now the scrolls work with Firefox 1.5. Ido not know how this will affect other programs but atleast Firefox scrolls with the touchpad. Note that the touch pad became somewhat more sensitive.

Well raise my rent. Still doesn't work for me...but i guess i'm getting used to it.

Once I got rid of the synaptics stuff, i also got rid of the blue screens.

Thanks for everyone's help...i may just have to live with this

Baaaaah...I will find a way -ZD...I WILL, don't live with it because you don't have to **** it~!

    haha

hrmm...software/driver conflict is my guess. Which software or drivers? I don't know...that is something we will have to find out.

    Cheers,
    Mike
