    Did Brian's suggestion work?

If not, try to update all drivers. If you are using linux, you might have a little bit of trouble locating them.

I am very curious about this as I have been using 1.0 since it came out without incident. Let me know how everything goes.

I have the same problem as chandlerjea. I have the Emachines M6805 and just recently I upgraded to Firefox 1.0. A couple of days later I was doing some system clean up and one of the things I did was run BootVis. After that my synaptic driver kept hanging after boot up(probably do to BootVis moving it some where it did not like to be.) So I download the newest synaptic driver and installed it. After that, my scroll function on the touchpad has not worked. It works for everything else; IE, Word, Notepad, etc.. Any thoughts.
    Thanks,
Bob (I'm new here and so far this looks like a GREAT site for info.)

    Here's a touchpad related question!
Last month when I bought the new notebook I was not used to using touchpad, so I disable a lot of touchpad fuction, like scroll on the right and bottom side and back and forward, but now I want these functions back and I can't do it! If I run Apoint from the driver folder the advanced tab will show up in the mouse section of the control panel, but everytime I shut down and start the computer again the advanced tab was gone and I need to run apoint again...
I am using windows XP home ed.
    Help will be deeply appreciated!

see if "apoint" has a "start when windows starts" option, or manually place a shortcut to the exe in the startup folder on the start menu.

As I just posted this on the Mozillazine Forums too:

[help]Latest Synaptics Touchpad v7.12.7...virtual scroll now does not work with my present Firefox 1.0 Release/Milestone Build...

Yes, I have searched in vain, and recall there being a problem with 0.9 builds...Here is my issue, I just did a complete reformat of WinXP SP2 laptop, with Synaptic Touchpad...Typically with laptops, you need to get a customized 'Touchpad driver' from your OEM, but I was using the driver v7.10.xxx that was listed on the Synaptics Site, which worked fine with my present FF 1.0 Release/Milestone Build, but Synaptics has totally redesigned their website...lol the older generic driver can not be found anywhere on their site...Sad

Now I tried their latest 'generic' Touchpad driver v7.12.7 04Nov04 (For WinXP/2000), and the Virtual Scrolling now does not work on FF 1.0...
It works fine on Windows Explorer, and IE6 SP2...

I have tried all possible combinations of settings, to no avail, and have reviewed a couple of Notebook Forums, where others were getting the same issue with the latest Synaptics Touchpad v7.12.7 04Nov4 (5.14MB) not having scrolling ability on FF 1.0 Release...For my needs this leaves FF 1.0 totally useless, please any assistance would be greatly appreciated...Here is the link to the latest Synaptics Touchpad:

    http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm

If anyone has a link to the one previous to this that worked beautifully with Firefox 1.0 Release/Milestone build....please list it, or PM me...

Thanks, and Happy Holidays... :), but this is literally killin moi....

Also, when attempting to use the Virtual Scroll Feature, it then puts a 'tiny vertical box' on my Firefox window with arrows---->where my pointer then goes to?? It also exhibits this 'tiny vertical box' on IE6 SP2, but the virtual scrolling works fine...fast & smooth...

When utilizing Virtual scrolling with Windows Explorer (ie scrolling in Windowssystem32), there is NO tiny vertical box, and virtual scrolling is also fast & smooth...

btw: My laptop is an older Compaq Presario 12XL300 model, and going to the new HP Support site is still a nightmare...the Compaq SoftPaq files do NOT work with SP2...and their Support Div said (of course) to contact MS Tech Support...

I pretty sure the issue that we are having with Virtual Scrolling not working with our present FF 1.0 Release/Milestone Builds is because of the latest Syanptics Touchpad Driver v7.12.7 04Nov04...

EDIT am attempting exploring this site for older Synaptic PS/2 Port Touchpad Drivers...All looking at my hand written notes..lol, it looks as though v7.5.7 or slightly newer will be correct:

Here is a link to this site: Please report back here, if I am on the right exploration trail...

    http://members.driverguide.com/list/company1006/index.html

Here is Direct Link to Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad driver v7.5.7 for WinXP/2000 English...
    http://www.pct.com.tw/en/Support.asp?id=135

I'm pretty sure that this driver should work, but am also trying to find another more updated one, but not the latest v7.12.7...

OK, the v7.5.7NewUIUSXP2K.zip (3.9 MB) from the above link comes directly from the Synaptics ftp: site, and after installing, all my virtual scrolling features work properly again in Firefox 1.0 Release/Milestone Build...

Although I would like to 'track down' a more recent version ie:v7.10.xxx or v7.9.xxx, I am satisfied...lol

GO HERE FOR A MORE THOROUGH LIST OF OLDER DRIVERS-Directly from the Synaptics Driver ftp Web Site:
    ftp://ftp.synaptics.com/pub/drivers/

I am going to try to USv7.8.10W2k.zip (3.7 MB)--->as I'm almost positive that this was the latest driver that I had where ALL virtual scrolling features worked on Firefox 1.0 Release/Milestone Build...Win2k/XP clarification usually work fine...for SP2...

    Good luck to all... :)

BEAUTIFUL...thanks Santa...lol as this USv7.8.10W2k.zip (3.7 MB) driver was the exact same one that I had before my reformat!..All Virtual Scrolling on my WinXP SP2 laptop with Firefox 1.0 Release/Milestone is now back to normal.............Ho-Ho-Ho :)

    Hi All,

Apologies for the double post, but I have just found out some more paramount info on this issue...For those who do somewhat follow Mozillazine Forums (and other Firefox Build related Forums), this comes from mmoy, who some real nice work with various optimized code for the Optimized Builders to utilize...

Michael just posted this on the Moox Builder Forums, and there is a Bugzilla Report submitted on this issue:

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202615

As I quote from Michael (mmoy):

Posted: Sat Dec 25, 2004 7:38 pm Post subject: Reply with quote
There's a bugzilla open on this which the Mozilla guys wanted me to take. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find out how to get the inputs to code Mozilla for this but I couldn't find any documentation for it.

This find (if it works universally) should make for a good workaround as it is a dealkiller for other laptop users too.

So apparently, this issue still exists for Laptop users, and if you are affected by it, please VOTE for it @above Bugzilla Report link, as this then attracts the attention of the Firefox Developers...

I have the same no scroll issue on FireFox 1.0 on my HP zt3000 notebook Windows XP SP2 with latest Synaptic driver from HP site.

Weird thing is that when I uninstalled the Synaptic driver, FireFox and all other apps scroll perfectly. How's that possible?

Rolling back my Synaptics mouse driver to 7.10.11.1 (5/26/2004) version worked for me and restored the vertical scroll in firefox.

Hey, just updated to the v7.5.7 XP drivers and scrolling now works perfectly in Firefox 1.0. Thanks for the suggestions! Using a Toshiba Satellite 5105-S501 with XP Home. I checked before and the Synaptics driver was 7.2.something.

    Thanks for the links!

Does anyone know how to get gestures to work with Firefox on a Touchpad?
I'm basically looking for BACK and FORWARD in browsing.
I've tried Mouse Gestures and All In One Gesturs extensions and both don't seem to support touchpad gestures.

(I could just hit Backspace on the keyboard too for that matter)

I am looking for a pure gesture touchpad solution that works without clicks or keyboard. I'm looking to have lots of control with just one finger on the touchpad just like I do in IE, for example.

    thanks

so far, no solution. it's a simple enough thing that a full browser like IE can handle with ease. FF needs to have simple touchpad gestures enabled.

I tried the Firefox extension and it worked okay for awhile, but became inconsistent in action. I later found my Synaptics base install touchpad options menu already had the back/forward tap at top left and right corners selectable and that works far better and more consistently with Firefox.

Simply uninstalling the synapticss driver in XPPRO SP2 and useing the the default M$ driver made scrolling work everywhere and made my tap click more sensitive witch I love.

I am using Mozilla 1.7.5 on my Actius AL27 and the scroll function does not work. I tried installing a more recent driver from synaptics, but that didn't work. When I try to scroll, the mouse pointer changes to a scroll bar with a pointer on it, but it just doesn't scroll. It works fine in every other program. Anyone else having similar trouble? Anyone know what to do?

I've found that an older synaptics driver solved the problem in mozilla, and FF. The older driver doesn't appear to have any less functionality than the latest synaptics driver. go figure. http://www.pct.com.tw/en/Support.asp?id=135

Has anyone found a way to do real simple gestures (no keyboard combos) such as "Back" and "Forward" with Firefox and a touchpad? I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with what's listed as an Alps touchpad.

OK, this is kind of weird. I can't scroll in Firefox using the touchpad scroll zone -- I get the little scroll icon under my cursor, but it doesn't move -- and the old driver didn't help at all. Just disabled the scroll *everywhere*.

But I just found out I can scroll on the regular part of the touchpad. Tap and drag up or down, just like you would on the scroll zone, but *not in the scroll zone. Does this just work on my ASUS W3V, or does it work for everybody?
