Just got a new laptop (Acer vn592g) and can quite wrap my head around a few things about Win 10

Firstly, what's the issue with the num lock? I've done the registry edits, lock screen hack, disabled hibernate/quick boot, but my num lock will still disable (no bios setting available). It seems to stay on when I first boot, but as soon as the pc goes into sleep mode, it turns off.

Another thing is the trackpad. I have one of those high precision trackpads (i2c drivers, advanced mode enabled in bios), but I only ever get the stock Windows settings not the advanced synaptic ones. Also if I use the "disable trackpad when mouse plugged in" setting, my trackpad will still be disabled without a mouse. The device manager always shows a HID mouse on "location1" - wherever that is, but if I remove that to get my trackpad working, my mouse won't work when its plugged back in. BTW the trackpad is also displayed as a standard HID mouse in device manager too. I tried manually changing it to the Synaptic driver and no joy.

Finally, the screen has a slight flickering when it switches from high brightness to low - like when you get an UAC alert or equivalent in Web browser and it dims the screen. The flicker is almost like a florescent light warming up and only lasts a few seconds. I think/hope its just a driver issue with the Intel gfx because I don't get the flicker in my web browser if I launch using the Nvidia gfx. Is there anyway to make the Nvidia gfx the default for Windows entirely - not just programs? This would be a big troubleshoot because if the flickering completely goes away using the Nvidia then at least I can rule out a hardware issue with the screen.

    Cheers

No offense bro but I had similar issues with an Acer laptop that I bought my mom. Theyre horrible IMHO.

Can you tell me what registry back you did to make the Num Lock stick?

So far, I really have no problem with the hardware itself - the Nitro line is fairly decent (and I got a good deal on it). I'm pretty sure that most of my issues are Windows related <surprise, surprise> and Acer's tech support was… I'll be nice and say less than helpful <surprise again>

The registry key I changed was HKEY_Users > Default > control panel > keyboard > initialkeyboardindicators (I also changed the value for all others "users" besides default)
I changed the value to 2147483650.
<advice I found through google, from several sites>
It will stick after a reboot, but eventually it just goes back to 0

I'm a little tempted to just say screw it and d/l a copy of Win 7 and go from there (my old laptop had Vista so I can't use the license from that). Generally though I really don't mind 10 that much (at least after disabling all the telemetry, driver updates, and other BS)

The value needs to be 2

Read many different opinions about the number, kinda seemed like a crapshoot for which one would work. The one I used came from a MS support page. I'll give just 2 a try and see if it works any better.

Little update on the other issues, I installed the beta Intel GFX drivers and seems to have helped with the flickering. Pretty much given up on figuring out the trackpad. Is there a DDU like program for input devices?

If I wasn't so lazy I'd do a clean Win install again. It was the second thing I did after installing a M2 SSD. That was before the anniversary update though
