Does anyone have any recommendations for Transfer Software? What I'm looking for is a program that will allow me to move selected programs that are installed on my old laptop over to my new laptop along with the data that belongs to the program (e.g. Microsoft Money, Outlook, etc.). I would rather not just copy the whole drive over (altho' that might work, I'd have to spend some time uninstalling the extra software that's accumulated on the old laptop.)

    Thanks for your help!

you can't do that. you have to install the program, you can't "copy" it over.

if you're unwilling to reinstall, you will have to "ghost" or "image" the entire drive. if you are transfering to a new HD on the same notebook, this is no problem. if you are transfering to a new HD a new notebook, you will have to reinstall anyway.

Well, you CAN do that on some programs. But going through the official install is usually cleaner, much less of a chance of an error. If you just copy the drive, make sure you change your Windows key to the the one of the new laptop (gotta love annoying license restrictions).

For the data, Windows includes the 'Files and Settings Transfer Wizard'. I've used it several times and it works pretty good.

It's always screwed up for me. Not gotten half the stuff I wanted, and grabbed all kinds of extraneous crap that wasn't necessary. It's probably the best way to move between computers, though, because the Windows system is so brain-damaged in it's config. I like being able to just copy my home directory under Linux, and everything's back the way it was.

    Thanks, sanpabloguy.

I guess you said it "worked well" (past tense) cuz Microsoft bot them and isn't planning to continue sales.

Do you know anybody who still has this software for sale?

    Thanks!
