So I used the voucher to get Win8 for $15. I decided to upgrade my old Dell Duo since it had a touchscreen. The touchscreen on the Duo has since crapped out and no longer functions reliably. The touchscreen was the main reason for me to install it on that device instead of my primary laptop. Since I no longer have use for Win8 on the Duo, can I deregister the Duo and use the key on another computer? I dont want to run the upgrade install on my primary and then discover that I need to format everything to put Win7 back on because the key wont work...any thoughts?

I don't think the key is transferable, but you can test it and contact MS support if it's rejected by the new machine. They MIGHT concede to giving you an activation code, but I haven't any experience with applying that voucher.

I have the feeling, though, that once it's activated, that's it.

Run slmgr /dlv in an administrative command prompt. If you see RETAIL in the output, the license is effectively in retail channel and although you might have to activate it by phone, transferring it is within your rights. I've transferred mine.

I guess it would behoove me to read the EULA. ;)

I really wish more people would do so. Every EULA interpretation question I've asked here at NBR has resulted in a bunch of non-answers. Non-answers that usually fall along the lines of what's technically possible as opposed to what's legally permissible :(

Every time I had a EULA related question, I've contacted MS support via chat.

I know that MS didn't care on what computer you installed the upgrade when you got it, I checked that thoroughly, but I unfortunately do not know if the EULA allows for you to transfer to another computer.
