Since I am going to stop using my desktop anyways that has XP home on it, can't I just install the XP home from my desktop on my new laptop as long as I uninstall it from the desktop first??

When I activate and select "activate by phone", I will just say that I am reinstalling the OS. That way I can just choose to buy the new computer with Vista basic (savings of $45) knowing that I will just uninstall it anyways.

Will I have driver problems with a new T61 if i do this as well.

    Will This work??

he may need xp.. if not, vista basic is the BEST version of vista. you don't need all that other junk in the other versions
    ..............................
if it is a boxed or oem version, you don't even need to uninstall it from the other computer. as long as you have the xp disk just install it to the notebook and enter the product key. worked fine for me.

if it is a customized os reinstall disk from the manufacturer, it most likely will not work on the notebook

I think you'll like Vista. Don't believe the hype that Vista is nothing but trouble. I'm running it on two laptops and love it.

If the windows license came with the computer it's probaly binded to it. If you bought it retail, you can transfer it.
