Please read third post, ignore below, solved myself.

So I'm on the verge of getting a new laptop (G53SW-XN1), and before I sell my current one, I want to import as much data settings as possible so I don't need to set them all up again.

Some major programs that I would want the settings kept for include:
    • Firefox (bookmarks, passwords, adblock filters, add-ons)
    • Chrome (^)
    • Word/Excel/Outlook (general settings, ribbon specific settings, custom shortcuts)
    • iTunes (playcount)
    • uTorrent (general settings)
    • VLC Player (general settings)
    • Microsoft Synctoy 2.1 (pairing sets)
    • Game Save Files (over 30 games, need advice on which/how to transfer)
So, I know it seems like a lot but is there one way to just transfer over these settings? I've always backed up my Windows 7 partition via the built-in backup software weekly, but can I really just restore this backup onto a completely new computer (with different hardware, obviously)?

If not, any programs that harvest/collect the settings files for various programs and copy over to the harddrive so you can just replace the new ones when you first install the programs?

Thanks a lot for the help, will be greatly appreciated!

edit: so researching the bolded ones (most important), I've found some clues..Also, if I do get rid on this computer before I can copy everything, I've copied over all the appdata + install locations to a 1tb hard drive just so I don't miss anything.

Rainmeter: Simply use Rainbackup and it should save all into an installer skin.
Stickynotes: copy the .snt folder and replace in new computer.

ignore all stuff up top, ive seemed to backup as much as i can manually and just use the classic method of external hard drive copy and paste..

but anyone please answer my final question:

I want to wipe both my C:/ and D:/ completely, should I...
    1. Use DBAN to nuke both, knowing that I only have the Windows 7 UPGRADE Media (from Vista) and not the Vista disc itself?
    2. Format D:/ in Windows 7 to remove all contents (or some other method that someone can tell me which is more efficient), then press F8 during BIOS, and restore my computer to factory settings to deal with C:/?
    3. Some new method (software? free?) that can do what I essentially want to do: wipe my data, restore the computer to as if windows 7 was just installed and ready to setup for a new user so I can sell it?
