switched to pc-cillin about 6 months ago and I am sticking with it. It is lighter on resources and I like the profiles available for the firewall.

And you can count this as a good aspect. There are updates available almost every day and sometimes more than once a day. I eventually just disabled informing me each time it needs to get the new updates and just do it automatically because it was getting annoying.

PC-cillin fan here, excellent software. Make sure you download the trial version first and use it for a bit, as they will offer you the software for %50 off the regular price after a couple weeks. At least they did for me. I got the 3 license pack and gave one to a friend, very worthwhile if it keeps them from getting infected (and me from having to fix it!)

One neat feature is the wireless security stuff, it will flag any pcs that pop up on your wireless network with a MAC address it doesnt recognize. Lets you allow them to see your other pcs or deny.. Very handy. Add in the good firewall program, spyware scan, windows update checker.. it has it all! Definitely will be renewing my license..

I don't have either of the products, but I've read the PC-Chillin is pretty good software.

Norton is terrible - I had it for about 3 years, and finally got fed up with the latest version. NAV Internet Security '05. Reinstalled it 7 times with no problems being fixed.

I actually got so upset I just took the NAV CD, went to the workbench, and smashed it with a big hammer. $70 down the drain, but I don't care...gave me some satisfaction.

TM is very nice, has built in firewall and also spyware/grayware scanner which a lot of other AV products don't have.

I like PC-cillin. NAV drove me crazy, actually NIS and Systemworks. I didn't like the fact that you can't turn off or exit SystemWorks completely nor can you uninstall it without having to go thru their site for additional software.

Pc-cillin seems to be doing good so far since I haven't gotten any virus or worm.

One of the reasons why I smashed my NAV CD to bits with a big metal hammer and threw away 70 dollars.

I remember quite a few reviews I read, based not only on system resource requirements, but also on virus stopping capabilities, ranked PC-Cillin and Kaspersky as the best 2. If I remember correctly Kaspersky out did PC-Cillin in the speed of full system scan.

I've been using Trend Micro's PC-cillan for about 2 years now. I've never had any virus problems. I do like the wireless network security feature that tells you when non recognized MAC addresses are connected to your wireless network. It sure does upgrade lots. At least once a day. I often wonder if this is a hoax by TM to make me think its actually doing something.

One thing I don't like about TrendMicro is every month or so it says my serial number is in use and I have to verify who I am on thier website. I use Trend's software on my desktop and notebook but the license is supposed to be for 3 computers, its rediculous that it still requires me to do this.

I've never used Zone Alarm but I sure would love to give it a go and see why everyone loves it.

I had Norton SystemWorks 2003, but I got rid of it and replaced it with PC-Cillin because of the huge amount of resources Norton took up. My computer's working fine and I haven't gotten any viruses, so I guess it's working alright.

Are you sure about that? I bought the 3 license pack and they sent me 3 seperate serial numbers.. If I accidentally put the same one on two machines I get the same message, and so change the number on one of them..

I have Trend on my Dell.
It does the same thing to me.
I always have to verify that it's me using it.
It's very annoying and I emailed them and asked them why this keeps happening.

They told me to make sure I registered with them, which I had done already.
They told me to register again, which I did, but it still makes me keep verifying myself.

    We have 4 pc's

one has McAfee, two have Trend, one had Norton which we replaced with Ewido Suite.

I really like the Ewido suite the best.
It offers protection against viruses, worms, trojans, dialers, hijackers, spyware, etc...

It's been really good for us and I going to put this into all of my pc's now.

I've never tried PC-Cillin (Norton Internet Security 2006 user here, unfortunately which antivirus is my dad's choice, not mine), but I'm sure that PC-Cillin doesn't drain as much resources as Norton AntiVirus. I'm not sure if its any weaker though.

Im using kaspersky antivirus 6.0 and i love it. It might not be the fastest scanning av on the marked, but it is good and effictive, after what i have read, its the best av on the marked for proctetion for new treads, still not in the signature list. Atm in not using any firewall tools, which might be a mistake, but cant get any one working to good together with the proactive defence in kaspersky.

If they test the programs on various sites and "Kaspersky" & 'Pcillin" rate higher, then they are better, no? My Norton is a hog, I think it's the "go back" feature that kills the speed more than anything. :(

PC-cillin is my favourite antivirus suite. I used to be a Norton subscriber, and it was the first thing I removed from my new computer last year. Been using PC-cillin since 2002, and now using the 2007 version. You can read on the web that it's a resource hog and it slows your computer. Don't believe it. If it does, something is not working right on your machine (conflict with other software, or you are low on memory). I've used both PC-Cillin, Norton and Avast on this computer, and PC-cillin doesn't slow it any more than Avast does - no noticeable slowdown of anything, really. It does it's upgrades every day (sometimes more than once a day), but it's very quick about it. Personally, I use almost all open source software, but free does not cut it for antivirus, antispyware, etc. My laptop is an Acer based on a 1.8 Turion, with 1 gig memory.

You should use Norton 2007 software release. It is day and night compare to their 2006s. They have changed the code, the program is slimmer and does not become a resource hog at all (tried in Vista).

But remember, dont buy stand alone Norton Antivirus package. Even NAV 2007 is not enough to give adequate protection and loose competition with other product which have more complete package.

You have to use more complete solution such as Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security 2007. It give you more protection and it can stand the competition with other security solutions. If you googling it you will find some positive reviews and good rating about this product.

I've noticed that everyone dislikes Norton. Well allow me to disagree. The past editions of NIS were big resource hogs up to and including the 2006 version. But the 2007 version is light on resources, at least as "light" as other suites. What i like about Norton 2007 also, is its excellent antispyware, which according to pcmag.com is as good as Webroot Spysweeper of Spyware Doctor. This way i don't have to install an antispyware product saving both money and system resources!!!!!
