Hello I'm trying to install vista x64 on my sister's comp. Here are her specs:
8800GT 512MB
E7200 C2D 2.66ghz (yes it's 64 bit rdy)
160GB HDD (IDE)
4GB OCZ ram
DVD-Writer
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L
So away I go with the installation and here I am stuck at the drive selection screen.
There's a msg saying: "The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk controller is enabled in the bios menu".
I've made sure I have:
1) bios updated
2) IDE controller turned on
3) set boot sequence to 1) DVD 2)HDD 3)USB
4) deleted the old XP partition and created a brand new partition before attempting installation.
5) made sure my partition is in NTFS mode
6) removed my SATA drive
7) loading windows drivers during installation
I can't think of why it won't work
Does anyone know a solution to this?

Do you have the SATA controller driver installed?
-
No. She does have a Sata drive as her backup drive but I've disconnected it temporarily to avoid trouble.
So right now I'm only dealing with 1 IDE HDD right now. -
update... installation went through initial format phase and then rebooted. The problem came back. I guess it's not solved yet still....
-
still having troubles....

While Installing press F6 and give the SATA / Raid Driver then try :rolleyes2:

I don't think that matters because vista already has sata files required for setup. Plus, my sister is using her IDE for installation. all hdds show up right during the installation. I can even create the partition it's just that I can't continue with the installation.

What chipset does the..motherboard have ?
-
IntelĀ® P45 + ICH10 Chipset
I've tried to download chpset files from Gigabyte's website and loaded it up during my vista installation but it didn't work either. The problem I'm having is not with sata drives. The sata drive is my backup drive. It's the IDE drive that I'm having trouble getting vista to install on. -
Well, Intel controllers are supported by Vista natively. Try removing the SATA drives, and make sure the IDE drive is Master and all, and then try installing.
Also checkout the IDE controller settings for Big LBA, Native IDE etc. and see if changing them helps in anyway. -
well for my IDe drives I've set the SATA mode to none (so I assume IDE by default). I've also tried to set it to big LBA.
I've lost the jumpers for my IDE HDD. By default I believe it's cable select correct??
The DVD drive is a SATA.
I've checked bios settings and it identifies that the IDE HDD as an IDE Master (if that helps at all).
