Each time I try to uninstall ZoneAlarm, I get a message stating that "the uninstaller was not able to stop the True Vector service", and that some other program is using "True Vector". The uninstaller states that I have "make sure all other True Vector programs are closed."

I'm on a pretty fresh install of Vista Ultimate, so I don't know what could possibly be using sharing True Vector, whatever the heck it is.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

You have to disable, or turn off, ZA before it can be uninstalled.

Sometimes a part of ZA is still running even when it is "shutdown". Go to task manager (ctrl-shift-esc), and end task "vsmon" and "zlclient".

    If that doesn't work:

    Start > Run > services.msc
Disable anything resembling "vsmon", "truevector service" or "zonealarm"
    Do the same through:
Start > Run > msconfig > "startup" tab

Restart and then it should be fine to uninstall.

Yowzers! What a helpful forum :)

I'll wait on the advice of those who are searching for me, and in the meantime I'll try the advice that the others have given...

Will let you guys know...in the meantime, the more suggestions the better.

My ZA is, of course, shut down.

First I'm going to try the two methods outlined above first. I'd like to remove that program without having to uninstall another. If that doesn't work, I'll surely take your advice!

    NO DICE!!!

Removed ZA from startup, rebooted, and tried: no dice.
Entered MSCONFIG and stopped ZA, tried: no dice.
There are no occurrences of VSOM or TrueVector wherever I look, but whatever I do it says True Vector is running.
Installed Advance Uninstaller Pro: no dice.
    Cannot find Pantastic anywhere!

    :(

    Eek.

    I figured it out!

Hah! I just reinstalled ZoneAlarm, didn't let it run, and uninstalled it off the bat.

Should have thought of that earlier...

    Thanks, guys. :)

    Glad you got it sorted.

I was going to suggest to run windows in safe mode, because True Vector doesnt run in safe mode... then unistall ZA. I had the same problem as you.

I wondered about asking you that. Not uncommon for any program to get "stuck" in a partially installed state, where it cannot be uninstalled, when the uninstall fails. Often reinstall puts it back to a state where it can be uninstalled.
