I am having a problem with my updates, if i switch them on. The amber shield appears in the task bar and a pop up informs me that i have new updates, so i click on it and agree to download them. it downloads ok, asks for "express install" or "custom install" i choose custom and there is only one update, it's called "Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1" i tick the box But then it all goes pear shaped. i click the appropriate button and it sits there not doing anything before telling me "Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1" was not installed...... any body have any suggestions..??....
i have looked at the trouble shooting stuff from their link and i googled it too, but didn't get very far

Thankyou for your help, i will go and try it out:) .
i have another slightly random question, i have two laptop computers both are running windows XP and using the same secuity tools and web browser, and yet,the one that has the slower processor and less RAM loads web pages faster and doesen't stick like the other one. i have tried unplugging them and swapping the cables over, and niether of them seems overloaded when i look at the task manager, any ideas ???
    thanks again
