I do not know if it's true, but if it is, that's very bad news. I have 4TB of data on a RAID partition encrypted with TC...
On TrueCrypt home page there is a following statement:
"WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues
This page exists only to help migrate existing data encrypted by TrueCrypt.
The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014 after Microsoft terminated support of Windows XP. Windows 8/7/Vista and later offer integrated support for encrypted disks and virtual disk images. Such integrated support is also available on other platforms (click here for more information). You should migrate any data encrypted by TrueCrypt to encrypted disks or virtual disk images supported on your platform."

yup, already knew about this about a year ago and their are a couple of threads about it on here. their website was directed to dead pages even back then.
for some reason my finger swipe stopped working on log in and even the switch user login option had dissapeared.
only way i could get it back was after 3 system restores but no idea why it dissapeared in the first place. only reason i can think was a windows update messed it all up. -
I need a tool for full disk encryption.
Any alternatives to TrueCrypt? Just don't mention BitLocker, it's only available in Win 7 Ultimate/Enterprise. Anything open source? Anyone? -

Only one I can think of open source anymoreMarecki_clf likes this. -
Personally, I'm sticking the TrueCrypt 7.1a until things are confirmed with 7.2 being unsecure. That said, the only open-source encryption program I can think of is also DiskCryptor.

It seems silly to recommend BitLocker as a replacement for TrueCrypt. I would expect that those who wanted to use BitLocker over TrueCrypt were by and large already doing so, and there's also the issue that a lot of Windows editions don't have BitLocker.
It's a bizarre announcement, though. True, it hadn't been updated recently, but the recent audit hadn't turned anything up, and there's no reason that Microsoft ending support for XP should cause the discontinuation of a cross-platform piece of software. Perhaps they might drop XP support in new versions, but there's no reason every version would have to be discontinued. If the developers just got sick of it, fair enough, but they should've given more indication as to why it was being discontinued. -
Does anyone actually use Bitlocker? Enterprises don't like it for some reason, and it's not (widely) available to individuals.

For me, what happen now to Truecrypt it is very fish, to me the page was hacked or the author was find it by some gov agency and was forced to deliver all he have about it, so between lines he tell us that is no more secure than the joke crypt from windows...I will wait and use 7.1a vers until I find more about...

Some Swiss programmers decided to take over TrueCrypt and continue its development, along with fixing any of its vulnerabilities. Not all hope is lost then.

I am going to try this because I think it may even be better than TC ever was for system cryptionLast edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
I was browsing around today to find copies of the 7.1a installer and came across this:

TrueCrypt ceases to exist?
