I need to get a job so i can stop fussing with my new laptop! BUT, until i do, i thought i'd try to partition my C Drive, as all i have read, it seemed fairly easy. NOT! For one, it says my C drive is a Basic not a Dynamic. Does that matter?

    It says this:

"Left-click on the "Disk Management" icon. Follow Simple Volume Wizard."

I get to that point, but then when i try clicking on every single thing on the page, NOTHING will open the "Simple Volume Wizard"... What exactly does it mean" click on unallocated space" The free space shows up as 90% free, but there doesn't seem to be an "area" to click on.

Can anyone assist me, or should i just give it up? I wanted to do it because on my desktop Acers, the drive is split in 2, and when the desktops get too slow or filled with too much junk, i return the C drive to factory settings, and it leaves my files in tact on the D drive. Can i do same with this Acer Timeline 4810 or is it too complicated for a novice like me to really even attempt?

    thanks!

    Dumm

Leave your drive as Basic. You can read the about the difference between basic and dynamic on your own.

What you want to do is to 'shrink' your C drive by the amount of space that you want in your new partition. You would shrink the volume by right clicking on the C: partition to the right of Disk 0. That would give you new unallocated space for your new logical drive (i.e. D). Take a read of the following:

I just took my new 500GB 7K500 from a full basic partiton to 64GB for the C:\ drive. It took a few times to get it down as it will only resize each time to the last unmovable file..........

Wait, your Acer didn't come with two hard drive partitions from the factory?
