    I have a 1080p .mkv file that I want to convert to a 720p .mp4 file so i can play it on my iPad. I have a program called AutoMKV and I am wondering if anybody is familiar with it. I would like to leave the original .mkv completely intact on my computer. I am not quite sure what settings I am supposed to set.....I know I have to change the resolution to 1280x720 (720p res) and I know the best codec for an iPad is DivXH264. However, I am not sure about the "Profile" and "Filters" settings.

    Here is a picture of the basic settings. I own the 1080p bluray edition of Blade Runner for reference. I am trying to get it onto my iPad. Rep+ to who ever can help me.

    Handbrake. Use it. It works much better for Apple products. Matter of fact it has presets for Apple products...

    Was just about to say, Handbrake is cross-platform, highly configurable when you're ready for it to be, and with plenty of presets for Apple products.

    Thanks guys I was thinking about using handbrake when I first wanted to do this task but I didn't know if it was possible too. There is one thing I am not quite sure about however. The resolution and anamorphic sizes, I don't particularly understand them. I know the video has to be 1280x720 for 720p but I am not sure about the other settings.....(the settings under the SIZE: option in the bottom left.)

    Or I found this on another forum:

    Well, the iPad's resolution is 1024x768, so it's a 4:3 screen. Here are the supported types of video...

    H.264 video (up to 720p, 30 frames per second; main profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats);

    MPEG-4 video (up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, simple profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats).

    EDIT: Or just try this... :)
