Hate to make a new topic but it'll probably get lost in the mess otherwise.
Mine gives me some kind of error. Just doesn't seem to work =/

Whats the error? It should work fine. if it is the error with cant start, you just close that and continue.
-
I got the same error on first start up, but it did work after following flamenko advise. And it reduced my boot time from over 1 minute to 35 secs.

Oh. Okay. I didn't want to break anything.
Thanks! -
35 seconds.....wow...
Glad i could return a bit of the help you have been giving me in the last few days. -
I also used it on my D600, with the same results.
So I still owe you. -
you don't need to install this XP-era program.
go to an elevated command prompt (type in cmd in your start menu, right-click the process and select 'run as administrator') and type in 'defrag.exe %systemdrive% -b' without quotes, ex: defrag.exe c: -b
if you did this right, you'll notice your hard disc's activity light is lit. important - you have to keep the command prompt window open after you activate the command, otherwise the defragging will stop. only close the window once c:\windows\system32> appears directly underneath the first command. by this time the boot defrag is done and your hd's activity light will stop. -

Going to revive and old topic here. I figured it was about time to run tunexp again to get my boot files in order and, last I checked tunexp works for Vista but the verdict is ONLY use the feature to speed up boot times not any of the other XP only stuff. Now I question elscorcho's advice with the command prompt defrag.
If I am not mistaken that will only defragment boot files, while tunexp takes it one step further and actually reads every file your computer uses at boot and them puts them in order back to back on your hard drive to eliminate almost any seek time for the file, thats the magic in making it so fast since notebook hdds are not too speedy.
Also MS themselves have stated in the past that they recommend 3rd party defragmenting software because there built in stuff is not that good.
Tune XP 1.5 doesn't work on Vista.
