from time to time "Turbo Gear" pops on screen and usually i just close it without a second thought. the thing of it is is that i dont even know what the program does. can anyone shed some light on this? i run a G71GX ASUS notebook if that means anything?

Turbo Gear allows to control/overclock your CPU. It must be enabled in BIOS as I remember. It does it a similar way as SetFSB by increasing the FSB depending on the installed CPU. Turbogear can't overclock a Quad and didn't work for me with a T9900 installed.

im afraid i dont even know what overclocking is and i have a core 2 duo P8700 @2.53 GHz.

Then consider to uninstall TurboGear to avoid the popup of the messages.
You can surely find more information with googling for "TurboGear".
