Does anyone know an app that will turn off the lcd when you lock your workstation (XP).

Even a function like toshiba's fn+f1 to turn the lcd off would be nice.

My hp doesn't have any function like that, other than setting it in power options to turn off the monitor...

I think MY meant if you left your laptop lid open.

I don't know of anything that would do that except going into power management and changing your settings.

Not if he didn't have it set in the power options. I can leave my laptop open for hours on end, and it will never turn off as long as I'm on battery.

It is standard for all laptops to turn off the LCD when the lid is closed, but when it is open, that is controlled by XP, so you have to change your power management setting to turn of the LCD after so many minutes/hours.

if you have an ATI GPU and have ATI Tray Tools installed you can set a hot key to turn off the LCD, i use it all the time, i just have it set to F10, anytime i press F10 the LCD turns off, without having to close the lid, etc.

in connection to the topic, is there a way or command or settings that will let me turn off the monitor? just like in the power options->power schemes->turn off monitor. My acer has a Fn+F6 function but that only turns the lcd backlight off not the monitor. and when i close the lid, it goes to stand-by mode which, yeah turns off the monitor, but also cut the network, which i dont want to happen.

Why don't you just set the power options in the Screen Saver to turn off the monitor after X minutes?

Also note that sometimes laptops come pre-configured to sleep/hibernate when the lid is closed, which may not be what you want.

this executable will turn your lcd off if you run it; wiggle mouse or hit a key to resume. i have it linked to an image in my samurize config so that i click on it and the monitor turns off. you can just create a shortcut to the .exe and it should work.
