My old Samsung had an Fn key to turn off the display , but my new Toshiba does not :( , I know you can set the display to turn off after a certain time in power manager.

So i had an hunt to find an app to perform the same function, I found "TurnOffLCD" , just run the app and it will turn off your screen, to turn it back on just move the cursor, it works great.

Nothing to do with saving the Earth, but I'd want and use this feature as well. My F has a display off button. Nice quick way of keeping prying eyes off my screen. Good to know you found a solution.

Just don't be wasteful with your energy usages.

I've been using it for a few years now, I love it. As a side note for anyone with a multituch touchpad. What I like to do is set it to launch when three fingers are pressed down. Makes it super quick and easy to shut off my screen before stepping away.

To do it, go into your mouse properties>>synaptic device settings>>settings>>Application Gestures>>Three finger press. Hit configure, and in the box that pops up, remove the default notepad.exe and then browse to your turnofflcd.exe. Voila, now press 3 fingers down and enjoy seeing screen turn off with little effort. :)
