I went to Google and did search for this and every single tutorial I found...couldn't use it .Got blocked from every side by %$#@$#@%^ Windows.
It always starts by click on "start" then it could be click on "control panel" and then click on "all control panel"...that doesn't show so...no good!
Next, click on "start" type "gpedit.msc in "start search box" and then click "enter".With that I get to a link that when I click on it,I get to a box asking me if I want to do that change so,I click "yes" and then, win up to a box telling me:"MMC could not create the snap-in."so...no good!
Next, click "start" and type "gpedit" in the search box and manage to get to "Local Group Policy Object Editor" but that's no good because what I need to find is:"Local Group Policy Editor" where the stuff is to turn "autoplay" off.
Edit:can all these troubles be because I'm on a standard user account?
Any ideas?Thanks
P.S. Pretty amazing you type "autoplay" in the search box and you get nothing useful.

It's really simple actually.
Start -> Default Programs -> Change AutoPlay settings
You should be able to set avery AutoPlay function available...I think -
When I press the Windows key and type "autoplay" I reach the destination I need to control this issue. See attached pic.

Well...I sure have seen that box and did click on "Use Autoplay for all media and service" to prevent it to start each time I insert a memory card in the card reader but I was looking for a way to do it radically for good like it's explained here.

P.S.Seems this is for "autorun"...what's the difference between "autorun" and "autoplay" ? -
I don't think Home Premium allows the group policy editor to run.
The group policy editor is just a GUI for a bunch of registry changes. I don't recommend you do registry changes but rather you go through the default programs panel, which does the same thing.
Autorun is the feature that allows a a program like Setup to automatically run when a CD or DVD is inserted.
Autoplay is the menu that shows up when you insert the DVD or CD. -
So what EXACTLY is it that you are trying to do? I find 24 results in the Windows Help and Support. I see all kinds of configuration settings when I type "autoplay" in the Instant Search box. You wrote, "Pretty amazing you type "autoplay" in the search box and you get nothing useful." So you must want some feature or function not covered in these two places. What is it that you want to do?

I think he was hoping for something like the one option in GPedit.msc
