not quite sure if any so-called good typing softwares can take over the place of reallife typing school.

search for "typing-tutor" would give u lots of ideas

    cheers ...

I learned to type with Typing Quick and Easy.

This was quite a while ago, so I don't know if the software is still available.

You can DEFINITELY learn to type with a good typing program on your computer. I can type easily 60 words per minute, which I realize isn't the fastest, not up to secretarial levels, but it ain't bad.

I found that the best thing for my typing was just being on IRC and Instant Messaging. Typing programs always annoy the hell out of me because they never properly deal with the backspace key, which compounds any "errors" I make. I note very quickly when I hit the wrong key, so I erase it very quickly too, so my overall typing speed is still quite fast. I have yet to find a typing program that deals with that.

But then again, I also rarely need a spellchecker, so it's quite easy for me to sit on IRC and IM and know when I mistyped or misspelled something. To each his own ;)
