So I just got a new Dell 1420 Laptop with Vista Premium, and I turned off UAC because it was getting really annoying, and I'm not an idiot. However, now that it's off, the Windows Security Alert icon in the system tray is always on. I remember in XP when I had an anti-virus program windows didn't recognize, I could set the Security Center to ignore the lack of a program. Anyway I can tell Vista to ignore me turning UAC off so that icon doesn't sit there and stare me down?

    Go to Control Panel>Security>Security Center

Then in the new window, on the left it says "Change the way Security Center Alerts me" - click that.

    Then Choose what you want.

The problem of turning the whole alert system off is that if there is a proper problem, then it wont alert you... so maybe its best to check every now and then.
