I just use my custom PC "hosts" edit file and that is all I need to do the blocking ads and adware site and popups. All those ads on plugins or programs I found does more to slow internet loads then help it and also more or less permit tracking of your internet usage instead back to the company. Would you like a adblocker program that reports back to their company on your usage just to block ads or popups or would you have the control to do your own blocking without telling the company what you do on your computer or internet???? That is the question users of those adblocker programs forgets someone is seeing what your doing with your internet as oppose to your own PC "hosts" blocker where your the one in control of what they can see.
From my past post about PC "hosts" file I included the most recent update as well as the Registry edit in case people face DNS problems

I zipped both files so one can download unzip them and look at them. This way others don't have to do the flush DNS edit. But remember this is for a Windows 7 O/S that I created and works on only that I used.

Is it better than Adguard? (if you've used it, that is)

Was that to me? No but in the past I did use adblock software and it caused more interference with my IE or FF internet browsing and I looked and look and by accident found the PC "hosts" edit file and took some trial and error to get it right but once I did it more or less improved my internet and stopped any popups or adware that tries to redirect my internet usage or where I can go and browse.

I did use adguard plus for a while but one site in particular was very slow (titantv.com). No issue with ublock on any site so far.
Thanks a lot StormJumper I will try it again on my other machine and do some testing against ublock

Been using ublock for a while and it's been great, prefer it over adblock plus.

It's odd the talk here when most forget its the PC hosts file that will determine where and what popups on your broswer. And all your broswer IE, FF, Chrome, Opera still uses the PC "hosts" file to do it internet redirects and by blocking those adware sites or popups site or redirects at the PC "hosts" level - kills those programs attempts to redirect your browser to their site from the PC O/S before your adblock or ublock starts their work that's what alot of PC users forgets. But then again this is my opinion.

I am using your hosts file now but I have 2 questions:

    1) what does that flushdns reg do? it certainly is not the flushdns command I know which I used to do in DOS

    2) where did you get that list from and how would I keep it updated in the future?

nevermind, it doesn't block all ads, going back to an Adblocker ASAP!

Tried uBlock for the first time yesterday i normally use addBlocker+ , but on the anime site i use it detects addBlocker and does not play the video`s and all them flash adverts really slow down the page down, and must a cause gpu load and run your battery down faster, but uBlock works great and the page is nice and fast.

    Thanks

    John.

Same for me. Been using it for several weeks on multiple machines in FF and Chrome with great success.

We were considering deploying uBlock to our enterprise as well, but the lack of IE support killed that idea, unfortunately.

Been using it for a week. Haven't seen much difference between it and AdBlock Plus. But maybe cause I don't visit as many questionable sites as I used to...
