I just installed my XP home from my older OEM disk on a Clevo 900k. I followed by installing sp1 and sp2 that I had previously downloaded to disk. I installed all the other drivers and software for my Sprint EVDO card and put the card in the pcmcia slot and it tells me that xp is currently only enabled for cardbus 16 and elsewhere that usb is not 2.0 enabled. I expected this but sp1 should have enabled usb 2.0 at least right? All via drivers and laptop drivers are installed and all seems to be working fine other than the pcmcia cardbus 32 and usb 2.0.

My main net connection is the EVDO card forcing me to do the updates by dial up, talk about painful w/o cardbus 32 being enabled. Any hints on how to fix this? I'm pretty sure it is a windows update I'm missing but which one and I need a place to dload it from another comp, burn it to a disk and install saving me many hours of dial up dloading. Thanks for help and suggestions.

Have you checked your BIOS settings? I'm pretty sure you have to enable those settings in BIOS before Windows can recognize them.

Here is the pop up I get:

"The Generic Cardbus Controller" has detected a card in it's slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the Cardbus Controller to run in Cardbus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit (R2) pc-ca

What am I missing here? Bios setting? Windows setting?

as mentioned, try checking your BIOS settings. I have run across a few computers that for whatever reason the USB was disabled initially, might be the same with cardbus

I checked and saw no BIOS settings for pcmcia. I was able to get usb 2.0 enabled but the cardbus controller still lists the PCMCIA as a genric card bus controler in the device listing.
