    Hi everybody.

I have a weird USB problem. When I connect an usb-stick to my computer, and try to transfer something to it, it's really slow (2-5 mb per second) But when I try to transfer something from the USB to my computer, it's normal speed. That means, it's slow at writing, and fast at reading.

I have tried to set it to High Performance in the politics, but no luck. I have also tried to reformat it to NTSF, and it seemed to work, but no. It starts at 30 megabyte (normal), but then it begins to drop down to 2 mb! That means, I can transfer 500 megabyte really fast, but when it's larger files, it will become slower and slower gradually, and then the speed would be 2-5 mb pr second again.

And it's not the flash drive! Because I have tried several - even external harddrives, and it's the same story. Fast at reading, slow at writing, and on other computers it works fine.

I have tried to install Intel's newest chipset drivers, but no luck.

    Here is my system specs:
    Intel Pentium T4200
    NVIDIA 9300m GS
    2 GB DDR2 ram

It would be nice with some help.

    Thanks!

    Kind Regards powerfull499

What are the rest of your specs?

File operations are RAM intensive, so if you have low or even "slow" RAM, the operation will take longer.

If your flashstick is full or has a lot of small files, it will especially slow down to 2MB/s

    Thanks for the answers!

Surfasb, as I said in my post, I have formatted the stick.

Matt Is Pro: Here is my system specs:
    Intel Pentium T4200
    9300m GS
    2 GB DDR2 ram

It can't be the ram, because on Vista, it was faster, and Vista is more demanding for the ram

What USB stick do you have? They are not all created equal. ;)

2 to 5 mb/s is normal for writing - at least for most USB Flash drives. I have several that are that slow. I also have a few dual channel drives that get triple that.

Now you should be able to read at over 20mb/s.

Windows precaches data transfers. So initially.. you can get more than 100MB/s out of any usb flash drive, but if the file size is large, it'll slow down until it reaches to a point where the flash drive is performing at the rated speed. Maybe your flash drive just slow.
