ok this is strange. when i plug my PNY Attache 2 gb flash drive into my laptop i get the following error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

but i can access it just fine on my laptop. when i try it on a different computer all i get is "F:/ Access Denied".

i am a little worried because i have a lot of school work (graphics) on it. if i cant access it on another computer im screwed.

    what do i do? :(

What operating system is on the computer?
Do you usually use it on this computer without a problem?
When you use it, are you usually logged into a different user account?

Sorry to say that most flash drives are not reliable for storage, only for transportation. Always keep a backup, looks like you may have learned this the hard way.

maybe the properties are just wrong? check if you can change rights on the stick.

on how to, you can get info about it in my sig actually (while it's not related per se).

else, as long as you can still access it on your laptop, do a backup. NOW!! :)

    Oi, I misread that.

    What OS on the laptop?
What OS on the other computers?
Does your laptop have a passworded user account?

Try accessing the drive through internet explorer iwth other computers.
E.g. open internet explorer and type in F:/

This might be a very common virus floating around in school comptuers. Sometimes it messes with the "autorun.ini" file on the root of the flashdrive. Sometimes it uses other method to supposedly "corrupt" your flashdrive so it's inaccessible to explorer.

the os on the laptop is vista
the os on the other computers is xp.
i stand corrected on one part in that i can access the drive on some of the newer xp comps on campus but not the older xp comps.

oh and i cant change rights on the flash drive.
